Or, as someone may have said,

"Practice, practice, practice."

yeah like bumper said... go listen to The Who... listen to what Keith Moon was doin'... then anna, go look at your drum set, and realize there is NO hope!
then just go back to flailing and havin' a good ol' time! Get the kids to join ya' and make it a family band!

Then quit those nasty smokes and you'll have more wind for the drum solos!! (sorry, couldn't help cross-threading!)

Is that like, "When in doubt, proselytize"?

In my day it was "When in doubt, mumble." I liked that one. Of course, if I wasn't confused, would I even be here? That is the question, like Owd Willy Shakespeare useta' say.

Rhythm? Like chewing gum and walking at the same time? My personal favorite saying is, "if you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bull****". Just promote yourself as a brilliant drummer who's before her time.

Boy, are my kids gonna get a howl out of the attention mom's feeble attempt at drumming is getting here. Thanks for the advice, folks. I'll keep at it until my sticks are confiscated.
So, to divert attention away from me.....anyone else have an interesting hobby we could discuss?

wow, Arnie, is that a "developing story"? or one contunuously "supported"?
Another good rythym excersize is to play a funky, bouncy, tune, in your car, use the steering wheel, as a drum, windshield wipers as metronome.."but Officer, I was just learning a Mickey Heart riff!"

I've got plenty of rhythm, but never understood the counters. I feel it just fine, can't count it worth a damn. Same with sheet music and tempos therein. Go figure.

To me rhythm is just a form of birth contol, if you ain't got no rhythm you cn't make babies.

Help me out here Anna, bang those drums oudly and drown out the roar of the wind between my ears.

Sometimes having NO rhythm is MORE fun. Another example of "less is more".
Some of the most fun I have ever had at things like weddings and stuff, is watching people with absolutly NO rhythm at all try and dance to rock & roll. They don't even have to be drunk for it to be entertaining!

I am rather amazingly bad on the drum, if I do say so myself. It is impressive that anyone could have this many drums without accidently learning something, but even people who have never seen or touched a drum play better than me! But I don't let THAT stop me. The problem with a big drum set is Drum Intimidation. Get a small hand drum or two (I suggest 10 or so) and strew them about the house, in all the rooms. Then you can play during comercials, or while the water boils, or whatever, whenever. Living close to the railroad like I do, I do some of my least bad drumming along with the trains. My washing machine is also good to drum along with. Then if you can find or start a drum circle, it turns out all you need is one good drummer to improve everyone else, even if only temporarily. My favorite drumming is just to make up a little rhythm (doom-doom-pa-ta-pa-ta)and play it over and over and over and over and over until I reach a nice trance state that I can hang out in until various family members bring me out of it by joining in, using my head as their drum. They even make up little verses like "stop it stop it stop it mom you suck suck suck".
We call this Quality Family Time.

I am a great steering wheel drummer. Can't dance, but then corduroy makes too much noise when you dance. So I drum to work and back.
