Yeah Todd, you can't tell the players without a program, huh?

I'd explain the whole thing, except you'd probably just be disappointed anyway. I figure you can appreciate cryptic more, huh?

Suffice it to say that a lot of this thread would probably make a lot more sense if some people didn't have the ability to edit their posts after the fact.

But future threads should now have the hope of a better tomorrow.

Voltaire, huh? Well knock me over with a feather. You're right of course, Todd, and I got it wrong, as usual.

(The correct phrasing would be "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.")

What would I ever do without Todd to keep me on track? I wonder. Thank goodness I don't have to. Do without him, I mean.

OK, so I was wrong, but I still bet it was an oft quoted quote back when there was all that ruckus about freedom of speech, and like that. If it wasn't, it sure should have been. (I'm going to stand my ground, however shaky it may be. Just watch me.) We were borrowing all kinds of stuff from the French back then. Why not Voltaire, after all?

I'll tell you one thing I couldn't be happier to see, and that's a whole bunch of people who aren't putting words into the mouths of others (like say, adg's for example), and who actually think it's a little weird to even try. What a relief that is!

The other one that always makes me cringe is when somebody begins a sentence with the words, "It seems like you're saying ..." The second half of the sentence is almost invariably such a distorted take on what I did say, and has been pulled so far out of its original context, that I can't begin to fathom how they could have jumped to their conclusion -- unless they were using a vaulting pole at the time, maybe.

That, and sentences begining with "You seemed to ..." or "You didn't seem to ..." Duh. Like I'm always going to react exactly the way somebody else thinks I should -- to anything. Or like I might not prefer to keep certain aspects of my life and/or my private feelings out of the public eye, maybe.

What the heck: there was one woman in town who used to always say "Don't you remember? You told me such-and-such." Of course, I remembered no such thing, and she would then insist that she certainly remembered the conversation quite well, and if I didn't, it must be because I was crazy, or on drugs, or something like that. Finally one day she came clean, and admitted that she was given to having "pretend" conversations with me in her head. She explained that she was so certain that I would have said what she imagined that I should say, and it was all so real to her, that she was quite convinced that I should remember her imaginary conversations just as well as she did.

Believe it or not, this came up when she was warning me that another woman seemed crazy to her -- because the other woman was given to having huge, knock-down drag-out arguments with me, while being quite alone in her own apartment.

Don't know why that seemed worth sharing just now ... Maybe I'm trying to see how confused I make Todd get. Yeah! That's probably it.

Yiiiiiiiiii ...

Oh, and by the way: I can actually relate to some of the people who hang out here, and find myself agreeing with some of the things they say. So there.

A few "can you believe this shit?" thoughts for the day.

If one truely enjoys an open forum and interacting with people, why take offense when people are themselves?

If a person articulates a position, idea or concept with the understanding or even the hope for other folks to respond, why be surprised or even offended when they do?

If blunderites cannot continue to have "diplomatic relations" with each other, what chance does the rest of the world have?

I think some of you wonderful folks should try to practice selective obliviousness. I think I have made that my new religion! Image
