OK, Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen were one of the best honky tonk cover bands of all time. They could rock the chestnuts like nobodies bizness! They did a cover of a song by a legendary folk singer and honky tonker called I'm a Commin' Home. This particular Honky Tonker shared the county of birth with the great folk singer / song writer and rumor in his own mind Steven Frumholtz!

Who wrote I'm a Comin' Home and for extra bonus points, what county did them two folkies come from?

Now this honky tonkin folk singer wasn't from the Brazos valley but he did reside there at the time of his untimely death (I think it was down near Austex where his untimely death occurred, a victim of a head on collision of somebody havin' too much fun with a big ol bottle of gin).

When I was just a boy back in Calvin Coolidge Grade School in 1965 or so we used to sing folk songs. Yep, we had the folk song sing along period (they was progressive in cow town back when we were all part of the Great Society). Along with Erie Canal we sang songs by Woody Guthrie (of course the This Land Song without the controversial verses) and Bob Dylan (Blowin' in the Wind of course) and the 500 miles away from home song (lord I'm one, lord I'm two...now who wrote that song?) But one of the more popular folk songs we would sing was by this Honky Tonk star and it was about a horse (and it wasn't Stewball cause we didn't sing no gambling songs as the Choctaw had yet to open there Casino's or BINGO parlors down there in the Boggy country)!

Moby Dick and the Whalers did a rockin rendition of Tennessee Stud. That was actually the first version I ever heard of that song although I did see Jimmy Driftwood once along time ago. Johnny Horton is correct but what was the horse's name and why did he write a song about him?
