Even though it's Ancient Greece we are going to, as long as we are stopping in the 70's on the way, I plan to stop first in 1978 to pick up John Belushi for our toga party. Next weekends Tailgate will be at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. It's only 15mins drive from my door to his so you can all camp out in my barn.( I'm still not sure which side he's on.Only Martha knows.)

Once again,for this weekend's tailgate we shall go back in time. This time to the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Considering that George W. Bush has been re-elected leader of the free world, I thought that the Titanic might be safer.

I think you're right, Larry. Bush is sinking an entire country instead of just one measly ship.

We once again going to put some miles(or would that be years?) on the time machine for this weekends tailgate. We are going back in time to visit Atila the Hun to gain some insight on what it will be like to have Condelezza Rice serve as Secretary of State.(oy!)

The following week, we will go back in time to 1965, to help a couple of young hippies take some garbage out of a church.

For Thanksgiving, I'd suggest any place in the south where everyone could boil, not broil, a whole turkey. It's a delicate but large operation. It involves gallons of oil/grease, a 30 quart pot and a whole turkey.

This tradition seems to be an outdoor activity and would fit in with a tailgate nicely. Note: each year a few people actually burn their houses down.

Perhaps Ceashel or cliffite could more eloquently explain this southern phenomenon.

Bobbi, I'm in the blue underground in a red state. I think we should call this movement the "Blunderground" in honor of all Blunderites similarly situated. You're right, there are some rather quaint customs that the locals practice. What you describe is more like deep frying the turkey, and I hear it's pretty good this way (also barbecued). I could write more, but the redneck Gestapo might be intercepting my messages.

I saw that turkey cooking thing on T.V. here must have been last Thanksgiving. No one celebrates it here of course coz they didn't have pilgrims just the British Imperialists barging in and stealing land from the Indiginous people and then trying to convert them. (Hey whats new about that?).
The garbage thing sounds the most fun to me.
Maybe we could tailgate out on Blunder road again and have a Ceremonious (is that a word?)Garbage Dumping!!

I live in a blue state! We've had deep-fried turkeys the last several years--it's easy, much faster, and very tasty. It's not just a southern tradition anymore ... of course, my husband is from Texas--where someone usually also smoked a turkey for thanksgiving.

Fried Turkey sounds yummy...
