Ode to Yam

What is it we owed to a yam
That placed us all into this jam...

To tell of it’s glory, to speak of its might
To rub it all over our arms every night?

If a yam talked to me and then to you
What would it tell us about what its been through?

Been boiled, been baked,-- been scrubbed
and it’s newest insult--- how it gets rubbed

Into the pores of menopausal gals
who cavort in the chat rooms with nocturnal pals…

how with the promise of high its been snorted

yam dust in the nasal cavity
what a ruckus! what a calamity!

poor yam to so abused be thus
it also may increase the bust

oh glorious marvelous outstanding root vegetable!

Iyam woyam hear me roar
in brown sugar by the score

in yammbers too big to ignore
--and we learned too much to go back to pretending

yes we've paid the price but look how much we've yammed
the possible recipes are unending

If I had to--I could yam anything
Iyam strong Iyam invincible Iyam woyam
