I finally realized the kids have vanished into their own heads now and anything I try to do to get back the control or the kid I needed when they were more a kid just hurts. At 19 or so, they turn outward but accelerate to the door if they haven't left yet.

Letting go is slow, starts too early and doesn't last long, but long enough. They are still our babies and the heavy side of that obligation comes later rather than earlier. Increase dharma later and lightly.

Smrfgrl has been a huge fan of New Kids on the Block since she was a pre-teen! Anyway, the "band" has reunited and started touring and she has seen 3 of the shows this year. What really makes her a groupie is that after the latest show she actually went to every Denny's around the area looking for them!! Good thing she didn't find them...

If she'd found them they'd be the New Kids Running away around the block?

LOL. I've heard of them but I have no idea what they sing tho. Stuck in the 60's & 70's lol...

Our daughter who will be 25 next month was a fan too, I think when she was around 8 to 10 years old. She had the NKOTB pillow cases and stuff as I recall. Thank the stars she outgrew that stuff!

I am a newb and was just browsing through the posts.
Just a word on the topic at hand.... teens. Yes they eventually move out.
Then just as you start making plans to downsize, renovate or anything thing else.
You just start enjoying that empty nest and guess what. They come back." In addition to coming back they bring their girlfriends, then the girlfriend invites other friends and it just goes on taking over the house, sitting in your favourite chair, eating all the food and not adding it to a grocery list. It never ends. At least this has been my experience. My 23 yr old stepson (a word I don't use) I have been with him since he was 2 yrs old.
You can't tell these guys nothing, they know it all.

We have always thought we had the best of both worlds. Weekends with kids, and weekends without. My husband is a project manager of an Ice Reconnisence Aircraft team and rotates in and out of the field every two weeks. We would enjoy our time together and just as we started to get on eachother's nerves it's "bing" time to go.
A perfect relationship, but not for everybody.
So don't let your kids manipulate you into thinking they will leave home because of something or other you try to do in their best interest. Take it from me ..
They will come back.
