I have an album called the THe Fantastic Dillard and Clark Expedition wiwth the Dillards and Gene Clark and this song is on it. Great Album! Good Song. I remember the very first concert I ever atttended was this version of the Eagles and they were the back up band for Jethro Tull. Can you picture Ian Anderson jumping all over the stage doing Thick as a Brick and Aqualung after this?

Tull is/was totally mental in a good way! I got my first Tull album, Auqulaung, when I was a little pot smoking 8th grader. I didn't really listen to the Eagles on purpose until I was a law abiding, tax paying citizen in my 40's.

Last night my 21 year old daughter asked me why do I think she is so attracted to men with long hair, her older sister too. I told her it was because I probably inadvertently raised them that way. Even her 53 year old dad has a ponytail. I asked her if she ever noticed that most of the CD's in this house all have dudes with long hair on them.

She thought that I had given her an appreciation for better music. With her head held high, her shoulders back and a curl to her lips, she told me that she and her friends all prefer listening to 60's and 70's rock. She said, "it's way better than anything out there today. There's no art to rock music or any musical talent anymore. You can't even get a decent guitar riff anymore!" Ha! I raised a rock and roll snob!! And to think I sometimes worry if I did a good job raising girls.

Only problem so far is that the hippies and rockers in their age group haven't made very good boyfriends or husbands. They're the ones making the crappy music. There are no real hippies. Just hippie want a be's. Where's the love? Where are the young idealists?

Take it Easy (the Eagles first hit) was released on May 1 1972 and Thick as a Brick was released on May 10, 1972. The Eagles set was all acoustic just like in the video and Jethro Tull, well that was a video of that tour no doubt. I saw them in July and I bet the ticket cost all of 10 bucks! I didn't know anyone who had heard of the Eagles at that time except from hearing Take it Easy on the radio (and maybe Witchy Woman) and that The Rolling Stone had pronounced them the next Supergroup (how did they know?) Oh Baby Baby its a Weird World!

Sounds like you raised your kids right. I like long hair on dudes but somehow wound up marrying a short hair. Go figure...

Thanks PS for those Tull tunes. Saw them once with my youngest sister in the Winter of December 77. Only thing I remember is it was a blizzard, and the Boston Garden was 37 miles away. My Mom said, "I don't know if I will ever see u2 again."

i saw these guys as the back up band for Traffic in the same place as Tull and the Eagles in about '75 or so. Another great show with a back up band I had not heard of yet!

My husband and I went to a Jethro Tull concert back in the 70's..I remember a couple of 'em in a zebra costume, and someone was shoving balled up newspaper out of a hole under the tail...

Ahh, music combined with theatrical art!

We actually had Alice Cooper for the band for my high school's after prom party...they had just had the hit song "I'm Eighteen" and they drove down to Lafayette Indiana from Chicago where they'd given a concert that night. We ended up with a 3AM concert in the high school theater. They set up huge fans...and during the song "Dead Babies" Alice opened up several feather pillows with a huge knife and emptied the contents in front of the fans into the theater. I was one of the lucky ones that got to help deal with the feathers. It was a horrid mess, and they were EVERYWHERE! We even found feathers in the fly loft of the theater, where flat scenery was stored; the audience left looking like snow people. We did the best we could, but they were stuck to walls and the ceiling, too. While the feathers were being dumped, I could hear the teacher in charge of the theater going ballistic at the band manager in the glass-windowed sound booth, above the noise of the concert...they were up a set of stairs at the back of the theater. After the band left, we collected and bagged four garbage cans worth of beer cans and liquor bottles.

Fifteen years later,I was at the school for a reunion and was in the theater for part of it. While I was sitting there, a feather drifted down and settled on my shoulder.

That is so so cool that you got to see Jethro Tull! Does he even tour in the States anymore? And if he does, do you think he can still hop around on one foot and play a flute at the same time? I'd love to take my kids and see him if I ever got the chance. They would dig it.

But the Alice Cooper experience is more cool than I can even think of a word for. Unbelievable! You get to say you had Alice Cooper at your after prom party! I don't know anybody who can top that.

I can't tell you what I did after prom because the stick in the mud I'm married to wouldn't take me. I could have gone with another hot guy who was in love with me, but nooo~ooooo I had to be the goody goody and not go out with another guy even though the stick in the mud said I could if I wanted. Damn! It's been 30 years and I'm still pissed off about it. If I could do it over, I so would have let the other hot guy take me to prom.

And now, a strange interlude:
A word to those who love adventure or just ordinary fun. Don't marry a guy raised in a church where girls and boys can't swim in the same lake, and who can't go bowling because beer is served there, or isn't allowed to go to movies, dance or play cards. (And how the hell was I supposed to know I should always wear a bra when going to his mother's house? I was 17, and hippies didn't wear bras, for cryin out loud! Well, that is at least until ya get old and fat. Then your breasts are heavy, uncomfortable and sweaty. So your choice is to walk around holdin em up with your hands, which my kids asked me not to do when they had company, or wear a bra. Is that too much information?)

I did ask my mom to please wear a bra at the wedding so his mom wouldn't be offended. But I'd never ask my mom to do that again, either. Gal was offended by a whole bunch of stuff we never knew was offensive. My family even agreed not to get drunk at the reception. In the end, it didn't matter. So, I just don't go over there anymore. And my mom is the Friends Pastor's wife who still doesn't wear a bra to church. I've even asked her, "Mom, don't you think that outfit looks a little bit too nipply for Sunday morning service?" She says no and goes on about her business. I love that about her.

Back to Mr. stick in the mud and concerts.
It took me 20 years to get him to his first concert! I took him to see The Moody Blues. Now he's seen them 5 times. But he is still a major buzz kill, stick in the mud and has never been to a party that was anything other than a pot luck after church. Now he doesn't even go to those.



I married him because he was the kindest, most tender hearted, most spiritual, most truly honest, and who would never try to boss me guy I've ever met.

He's a keeper and I'm still glad I married him,
but if I ever get the chance to go to a party with another guy, I'm going!

Shhhhh, I got him the coolest present to surprise him with on his birthday. I called his boss and ask him to give hubby the day off but not tell him or let any other supervisors tell him until the day before, and I got BB King tickets for him and his brother. He said if he could see anyone before he died it would be BB King . Heee Heeee!

My wish is to see Arlo from the best seat in the front row.

Ahhhh.....time. In the scheme of things, we are here but for an instant, altough it seems longer to us. In geologic time, we will have hardly existed at all. BUT, in celery time, which is what I set my watch to, I snicker at geologic time! the big bang was only yesterday, and it will happen again tommorow. In celery time, my body will rot and decay, and I will become the fossil fuel that I will burn 50 million years from now. A paradox you say? Balderdash! There are is no such thing as a paradox for those living in celery time, only for those that don't. I'll see you again yesterday.

Okay guys ... I went to see Dolly at the Chicago Theatre on Friday. She looked like a sparkler on the stage in the spotlight with all her sequens and glitter. We were 'rockin'! Dancin' in the aisles and havin a great time. Couldn't help but think of Darrol Adams tellin Arlo to "get Dolly" (for the tribute album). She's a sweetheart and quite a musician! Sure puts on a great show. As I was hoofin it back to the train station, I wondered if she does 'meet n greet'!!!

I got a 'nose-bleed' seat...actually a 'chair' in the way-back of the balcony! Got friendly with a couple next to me who had 25 family members scattered in the theatre. Daughter came up to talk and said they had an extra seat and invited me to join them in 2nd row of balcony! We all had a great time. What a show-gal she is. I wore my Dolly T-shirt to school and had girls asking me about 'Aunt Dolly' (from Hanna Montana!) What fun!

So what, I changed the subject...now back to the Eagles and J.Tull !

Primula -- Yeah, it's great to have that front row seat and see Arlo in his glory...watch the magic fingers on that guitar. But, no matter where you are in the theatre...just sit back and listen to the music.

Just had to say that. I'm always grateful to BE...no matter where.

I think 'we' are a special breed...I talk to people who seem to be 'in tune' but doesn't seem they are! But, then I am not one to judge! Either you got it or you don't and it's okay. The music will always be there for them when they are ready.

That sounds like some interesting shows Sue went to. I bet Primulas Hubbys church is Independent Baptist. I had a late Aunt & Uncle who were Independent Baptist & they had all these couldn't do this & that like that. So was Jerry Falwells college I went to. Had goofy rules like you had to wear dresses below the knee & no pants to class (yuck) & couldn't listen to rock music. But we kids snuck & listened to it anyway. I remember us kids sneaking to listen to Led Zeppelin albums & watching the door to make sure nobody caught us. My Aunt & Uncle didn't believe in tv until 1966. They finally got one that yr & I remember going with my folks to their house to see it. It was on old b&w set that took 5 mins to warm up lol.

I remember going with Mike to a Monkees concert yrs ago. I remember standing on a chair in go-go boots & a miniskirt to see them. I later found out one of my cousins was a coupla rows behind us. He said some girl was screaming Davy Jones, Davy Jones & got so excited that she fell off her chair into his lap lol.

I remember in the 60s's going with a friend of mine to a battle of the bands concert they were having at a local school. It was Halloween so you dressed up in costumes. They had a costume contest to see who had the best costume. My friend entered it & tried to get me to go up there but I was too embarrassed to go up there & stayed in my seat lol. I can't remember if my friend won or not but I think I was dressed like a bunny rabbit. Most of the groups looked like they were trying to imitate either the Beatles or Hermans Hermits.

Another 60's concert I remember was a cousin of mine used to sing in rock groups & back int the mid 60's he was singing in a group called the Mandrillas. They were named after some kinda animal named a Mandrilla. Anyway they did a gig at a school in Petersburg & I went with my Mom & Aunt to see them. The opening act were these school kids doing ballet stuff & even tho they were my age, I thought it sucked & couldn't wait for my cousins band to get on stage. My mom was like they are so cute & that is so nice. When my cousins band got up ther to sing a bunch of kids screamed like yay & stuff & all ran up in the isles & near the stage & started dancing. I told my mom & Aunt I was gonna go up there & dance too. My mom said she thought it was inapropriate to do that but my Aunt said I guess it was okay & no harm since everyone else was doing it. So I went up in front of the stage & danced with the other kids dancing while watching my cousin sing. I was trying to imitate how I'd seen people dance on American Bandstand & Hullaballoo lol. I remember it was around the time the Beatles had out their song Day Tripper cuz that was one of the songs my cousins band did. I can't remember what else they sang as it was along time ago & I was a young kid back then lol...
