Bumper, I had a Renault R-10, briefly. Except for not deciding to run pretty frequently, I guess it was okay. Actually, I hated it.

BuffaloGal, I'm impressed. I've kept my '68 bug going, rebuilt it twice, and when Jay and I "courted," we rebuilt his '67 bus engine. But you work on American, water-cooled. Cool. That's much harder.

Our house could be an ad for VW. Got the white '68, a bright blue 2000 NB, and a blue Audi in front of the house. Can't work on the latter two, you can even SEE the engines anymore; they're all shrouded.<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/alien2.gif" width=15 height=17>

This thread meant absolutely nothing when I started it more than 2 years ago, but after discovering it here tonight, I'm pleased to find that it means even less today.

Anyways, I found some cool pictures of the 1963 Olds F-85 . The 1st 2 are convertibles, the last one is just like the one I had, cept for the color.

Didn't even know this thread existed; thanks for resurrecting it. My first car (1964) was a white 1959 Chevy Biscayne with huge tail fins and bad brakes. Got my first speeding ticket with it in New Orleans, and had to spend a night in the slammer thanks to the Napoleonic Code or something like that down in the Crescent City.

My 1st car '65 Dodge Polara~ a TANK, I bought for $250. in '74~ my dad insisted I have a safe car to drive out to Vo-Tech {12 miles down rt 66}. If only he'd known, I got that old thing up to 90+ mph! When the 'Hi-Pos' stopped me I just got a 'Warning'! I sold it to my dad for a months worth of rent in '77.
Then I bought a 75 Datsun B-210 hatchback. Those cars were famous for the ignitions going out. Which mine did, often. When I tried to start it up & the key would not move
I quickly learned how to take out the column, under the steerin wheel, & Hot Wire it, & be on my way in less than a minute. {I timed myself}. This feat did impress more than one old boyfriend! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/wink.gif" width=15 height=15>

Did you learn the "hot wire" technique from watching 60 Minutes?

A cop told me that car thefts rose dramatically when Mike Wallace was kind enough to demonstrate the technique on TV.

No, Mike W didnt teach me the 'Craft'! I honestly think one of my brother's & I were tryin to figure it out & as we sat in the car with a screw driver, he said"Try unscrewin that~ under the wheel". Well I took his advise & next thing I knew all the 'innards' came tumblin down & from there it was pretty easy to see how to get on my way! I must have put at least 3 ignitions in that car! Shouldnt have wasted the $$$ on the last 2, cuz it was a great 'conversation starter'!
