errr... from where I stood (sat?) the standing ovation was clearly directed towards Pete... of course, it didn't hurt that the rest of the crew was up on stage either, but definitely Pete was being feted for just being up on stage once more... with feelin'!

Oh, I know the standing ovation was mainly for Pete! That's mostly why I was standing--I was so very happy to see him!!! But for me, it was also because there were 4 generations of family and friends on that stage, performing and sharing the music that Pete has spent his whole life performing and sharing, since long before anybody else up there had been born, keeping it alive and passing it on, and filling me with joy and hope in times like these....That's why I was on my feet, too.

How do you know that the ovation wasn't for Arnie, because he actually showed up and sat in the seat he paid for?

Oh, that's a good point!

It was a great show and I was really glad I made the trip up from DC (by one of those doubledecker Megabuses, which prepared me for the singalong portion of the evening -- when the driver announced that our movie would be "Alvin and the Chipmunks," there was this chorus of groans which emanated in unison from everyone over 7).

I also, for my own sake, made some notes -- some songs may be out of order or I may have the title wrong (or not at all)...but here goes:

1. Midnight Special (Pete led, followed by standing ovation mostly for Pete who was being his usual humble self and reminding me (in a much nicer way) of something I'd seen George Burns say in 1986 at the Expo in Vancouver --when he was 89 and the audience gave him a standing ovation before the show even started -- "Thanks for that standing ovation, but it worries me. As a rule, an entertainer gets a standing ovation at the end of the show. You were afraid I wouldn't be around that long." I have felt odd ever since then about giving standing ovations to 80+ year olds before a performance really gets going, worried it could be misconstrued...I tend to overthink things so the standing ovation was over before I was able to reach a decision which was just as well because we were in the back of one of the boxes and standing up was a challenge.)

The only thing that was missing for me was "Wimoweh" -- Tao was sounding great and I really would have loved to hear him do it. But still a great show. I didn't recognize all the family members who came out at the end, but I did see Mrs. G and Nora Guthrie, I believe.

I also learned, in the Carnegie Museum area, something I'd never known or had forgotten: Leonard Bernstein wrote the music for Peter Pan and when it premiered, Jean Arthur (one of my favorite actresses) and Boris Karloff were the stars. So I both had a wonderful time and learned something new.

I'm sorry I didn't get to meet up with the others who attended -- things were just too hectic for me that day.

Thanks for the set list, Eileen. What a wonderful selection of songs. That show should be on DVD or mostly CD entitled "Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie- More and More Together Again and Again In Concert" I would have loved to go to that show sounded awesome but times are tough for me at the moment with my one inner self.

BTW was Goodnight Irene performed that night as another encore?

It's funny you ask that because, as I was walking home tonight, it suddenly popped into my mind that I'd left out Goodnight, Irene -- and, yes, I'm pretty sure that that was the second encore. I think I didn't write it down because by then I was trying to stand up and the paper I was writing on fell to the floor. I'm about 99% sure they did Goodnight Irene, but maybe someone else can confirm -- I saw Arlo 3 times this fall and it's possible I confused this concert (it's been over a week already -- how time flies) with one of the others.

Good Night Irene was the very last song, which I wish they wouldn't do, because I don't have enough time to "mop up" before the lights come on. It's incredibly moving...esp with that bunch singing it.
