This brother act goes way back

Tim Robbins, older sibling discuss their creative partnership

WOODSTOCK -- Tim Robbins goes way back with a man who
provides music for his movies. David Robbins, after all, is his older
brother.

At a panel discussion on film scoring at the Woodstock Film Festival on
Sunday, actor/director Tim Robbins and composer David Robbins
mixed tales of how they find the right music for their movies with some
brotherly banter.

"I first met Tim in Pomona, Calif., when Mom came home from the
hospital," David deadpanned.

"After he tried to smother me with a pillow," Tim shot back.

Musical collaborations between Tim and David Robbins do go way
back. They are sons of Gil Robbins, a folk singer who played with the
Highwaymen in the 1960s.

When Tim, now 43, directed and played the title role in "Bob Roberts,"
he turned to David. The 1992 movie is a mock documentary about a
right-wing, folk-singing U.S. Senate candidate from Pennsylvania.

Tim sang in the film and David is credited with playing the guitar. Their
father was credited as a vocal coach and choral consultant.

Tim said he's thinking of resurrecting Bob Roberts -- maybe this time as
a presidential candidate. He said the original movie, which takes place
as the country moved toward the Persian Gulf War, remains relevant.

"Bob is kind of festering right now in the current political situation," Tim
told the audience.

The brothers worked together on two other movies directed by Tim:
"Dead Man Walking" and "Cradle Will Rock." The brothers said they
share the same philosophy when it comes to movie music.

what Guthrie sings, plays, and says -- there's more than a

"Move over, Newport"

There's a bit of a Newport Folk Festival reprise going on this
weekend in Worcester.

First up, Arlo Guthrie is set to play at 8 p.m. tomorrow in
Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St., Worcester. Then, on Sunday,
Jack Williams will be performing at 2 p.m. at Ralph's
Chadwick Square Diner, 95 Prescott St., Worcester.

Both Guthrie and Williams turned in outstanding
performances at this year's Newport Folk Festival in Rhode
Island, and, in their own ways, (Worcester Telegram &

Recently, in a Worcester, Massachusetts Arlo Guthrie concert, he (Jack Williams --see link below) was invited by Guthrie to join him on stage and sing one of his own songs, and then to join Arlo’s group for the final half-hour of the concert.

I always find it interesting how consistent it is that those who can write cannot do math. From the above article:

In the article, the author states, "Also particularly sweet is Arlo’s relationship with his father, the legendary singer Woody Guthrie, who is only seen in his hospital bed, paralyzed by a hereditary disease (which Arlo would later contract)."

Talk about poor reporting!

Last I heard, at the October shows, Arlo was in fine health, and expects to live life to its fullest, for the time he is given!

Yeah, I noticed that too so I e-mailed the guy who wrote the article and asked him where he got that information, but he hasn't responded yet. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the article that reads "unless citing a specific media source, all news items should be regarded as rumor". I still think they should be more careful about printing stuff like that, though.

I also e-mailed him, and asked (politely) that he check his facts re. Arlo's health and that he not promote the DVD. I'll be surprised if anything comes of it.

The Church made the Dallas Morning News in an AP story. The article in the paper paper had a photo of Lisa Guthrie with the chuch in the background. www.dallasnews.com/travel/unitedstates/stories/112402dntraalicerest.bc677.html
