Renowned activist and troubadour Arlo Guthrie will headline a concert tribute to his father, the legendary Woody Guthrie, celebrating his legacy of grassroots activism. Musical guests will include Ellis Paul, Happy Traum, Sarah Lee Guthrie, Abe, Johnny Irion and the Vanaver Caravan. The concert was inspired by the Academy Award-winning Guthrie biopic Bound for Glory, which will be screened during the film festival to honor the artistry and social consciousness of two special guests, Academy Award-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler and producer Harold Leventhal.

The concert was produced with help from Nora Guthrie and the Woody Guthrie Foundation And Archives, whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate the legacy of folk musician and artist Woody Guthrie. As guardians for the largest collection of Woody Guthrie material in the world, the Foundation achieves its goal by caring for, maintaining and sharing its archives with the public.

The music
A new annual program at the festival will be "Focus on
Music," which concentrates on the interplay between
music and movies.
"The establishment of 'Focus on Music' is particularly
appropriate given the history of the town of Woodstock,
long known as a musical mecca of all genres," said Rejto,
who is also director of development for the festival.
"This year marks Woodstock's 100th anniversary as the
Colony of the Arts, and we look forward to establishing a
forum for innovative music films, exciting performances, and
imaginative music workshops and panels."
In addition to showcasing films about music and
musicians, "Focus on Music" features a series of
workshops and seminars that explore the use of music in
movies. One of these events is a panel discussion about
movie scoring that will be held with Tim and David Robbins
at noon Sept. 22 at the Colony Cafe.
There also will be a number of concerts during the
festival. Among them is an opening-night tribute to Woody
Guthrie at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Ulster Performing Arts
Center in Kingston. Woody's son Arlo Guthrie headlines
the event with Ellis Paul, Happy Traum and the Vanaver
Caravan.
Other concerts include "Rising Low From the Deep End"
with Gov't Mule and Mike Gordon from Phish at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 19 at UPAC, and a performance by Benny Mardones
at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Colony Cafe. Mardones, who
sang the hit "Into the Night," is the subject of a
documentary to be shown at the fest.

on Oct. 7 at 1:30am, EST
that's 1:30 in the morning!

Thanks for the info! Man I wish I could get that channel. Oh well, I have the video so maybe I could watch the video at that time of the am to make up for not getting to see it on the cable channel...

We went to the designated Web site but found nothing about the netcast, so I e-mailed them and got this reply:

Can anyone tell me what he did & said before he did SLOW BOAT? Wouldn't you know it a friend of mine called earlier tonite & stayed on until 11 PM. I had my browser up all ready to go so when I got online I could hear it. Browser crashed. Brought it back up & it crashed again. Then once I got it up my media player gave me an error message. Yikes! <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/frown.gif" width=15 height=15> I finally got it going but by then I had missed part of the show & SLOW BOAT was playing. I wish we could see the video of this. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

VCR ALERT!!! Attention Arlo fans in the NYC metro area: a friend just e-mailed me this Thanksgiving morning to say that ABC-TV (Channel 7) will be running a feature on Arlo during the 5:00 Broadcast. I hadn't seen the promo for this, but my friend said that the promo the station has been running looks "interesting."
