2/8/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- The songs of Woody Guthrie will again get the spotlight with the release of Man In The
Sand, a DVD and VHS about the making of Mermaid Avenue, the Billy Bragg/Wilco collaboration from
1998 based on unused lyrics of the American folk legend. The effort will arrive in stores on March 27.

The behind-the-scenes release captures the creative process behind the one-of-a-kind project, as well as
performance footage of several songs. Also featured is Natalie Merchant, who added vocals to parts of the
album.

The DVD version features five bonus audio tracks of demos Bragg cut for the project, among other
enhancements

BBC's folk music website set to go online today with a live concert

Folk music's first central website goes online at 6pm today.
The site will be officially launched with a live concert from
York featuring Maddy Prior, Kate Rusby and Shawn Colvin.
The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2's Mike
Harding Show at 8pm.
The website includes detailed biographies of 130 folk
artists and full details of the leading UK folk clubs.

There's a 5 hour time difference between the East Coast and Great Britain.
The following web site should be active at 1 PM East Coast time (6 PM GB time) and the live concert at 3PM EC time (8 PM GB time).

The June issue of Folk Roots says: "Scheduled for a September release is A Golden Thread: Songs of Pete Seeger Vol 2 on Koch International. Pete Seeger himself appears on the CD doing songs with Arlo Guthrie that were written by Pete and Woody Guthrie but never recorded. Jackson Browne and Joan Baez perform "Guantanamera" with some of Cuba's finest musicians. Other artists singing on the CD are Dar Williams, Steve Earle, Billy Bragg & Eliza Carthy, McGarrigle Sisters, Moxy Fruvous, Janis Ian, John Wesley Harding and others."
