Forgive me, I have no link to share. Instead, I hope to share a story. Today in school, I attended an assembly and later a workshop headed by the poet, Martin Espada. ((if you haven't read his poems, I greatly suggest you start to!)) At the end of the workshop, we were able to get autographs and talk Mr. Espada. Someone brought up a poem ((he presented to us about Victor Jara)) and brought up Woody Guthrie. Martin Espada mentioned Arlo. It was really cool...

Reading the previous post about Arlo's "Motorcycle Song" (from the Pearl Jam message board) reminded me about the Poetry Poll a few years ago. "The Motorcycle Song" got quite a few votes and earned a place on the list. The poll was conducted between 1992 and 1998. The link to the results of the poll given on the site below is not working right now. It stays on the screen just long enough so that you can see the list of the top 10 from the poll.

Steve Goodman's hit song The City of New Orleans will be illustrated in a picture-book format by Michael for G. P. Putnam's Sons. Arlo Guthrie, whose version became the standard, has agreed to write the foreword. Michael has been pushing this project for many months. A publication date of 2003 is planned.
