Our favorite folksinger was an answer on "The Weakest Link" last night, on of all things a celebrity edition that was contested by ex "Seinfeld" cast members.
The question was worded something like " What folksinger wrote the monologue Alice's Restaurant?" --- Goodbye!!!!!!

Greetings: The following is posted at www.bigtop.orp and then click the tab that says tent show radio. It will tell you this show will be broadcast nationwide. Choose the station guide to see if it will be broadcasted in your area. Hmmm, bet none of you knew Arlo had a son name Ben. Don't worry about emailing Big Top, I already did. The date is in February, you can get the exact date by going to the site. If you can't find it, just email me and I will copy it and send it in an e-mail to you. (tbuhler123@aol.com)
Peace - Darlene.

One great Tent Show Radio hour with Arlo Guthrie and his son Ben. This is a repeat broadcast that Big Top Chautauqua's Warren Nelson proclaims as a "big time highlight of all our years of ears." Arlo performs "Alice's Restaurant" and so many more that you know as well as a new song or two. Note: This show is a repeat of a performance from show # 13 in 1997)

Saw a great movie on Sundance last night, all about Ramblin' Jack Elliot. It was a documentary done, I think, by his daughter, and had lots of Woody, Arlo, Pete, Nora, etc. in it. Definitely worth watching (and taping) the next time it appears.

Darlene, maybe the Tent Show has Arlo confused with John Sebastian, whose son Ben also performs -- although I can't say as I recall seeing Ben on the same bill with his father. Yet. (You know how it is with those singer/songwriters. They all look alike. )

Funny. The local paper here thought Arlo had a son named Ben performing with him when they played here in October. Maybe his publicist is confused!

The special, "In Search of America: A July 4th Musical Celebration," will
have Jennings introducing performances by Sheryl Crow, India.arie,
Hank Williams Jr., Brooks & Dunn, Wynton Marsalis, Los Lobos and
others.

Fourth of July celebrations from across the country will also be featured.
Jennings said he wanted to connect aspects of American life through its
music.

So ABC will show polka from Wisconsin, cajun music from Louisiana.
ARLO GUTHRIE will open the night singing his father Woody's composition,
"This Land is Your Land," and Jennings will remind viewers that it was
written as a protest song.

"There are little things for people to learn without getting in their face on
July Fourth," he said.

GUTHRIE was one of two acts that Jennings said he booked personally.
The other is singer Sandi Patty, who will end the show with the national
anthem.

"...
Joining Jennings for the broadcast will be noted music folklorist and broadcaster Nick Spitzer,
who will help explore the roots and styles of the music featured on the broadcast. Spitzer is the
host of Public Radio International's weekly syndicated program American Routes and professor
of folklore and cultural conservation at the University of New Orleans.

Janet, thanks! I didn't see your post before the show but I wish I had. It's a nice show; more understated than others, and that's a good thing.

Going back to it...

Thanks again, Janet.

We are greatful to Janet for the heads up. Arlo should sent info on this to Dave. If it weren't for Janet we wouldn't have known. Arlo will need to hire her as his publicist.

I found out Arlo is supposed to be at a Woodstock film festival:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20020831/people_nm/calendar_1_1

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Film Festival begins with a screening of DYLAN KIDD's dark comedy "Roger Dodger" (through Sept. 22).

HOLLYWOOD - Third annual Latin Grammy Awards presented at Kodak Theatre, televised on CBS.

MARRAKECH, Morocco - The second Marrakech International Film Festival (thorugh Sept. 22)

* WOODSTOCK, N.Y. - Third annual Woodstock Film Festival. Celebrity participants to include TIM ROBBINS, STEVE BUSCEMI, PARKER POSEY and ARLO GUTHRIE (through Sept. 22).

On that date he is gonna be at Kingston, NY Ulster Performing Arts Center. So I'm betting the 2 are interrelated or he'll be at this earlier before the gig or something.
