Whow, can it be true that there are no topics on here yet. I'm starting this baby with Alice's Restaurant. Just finished watching it on German TV. Oct. 11, 2:00 am. Bavaria 3 showed it in a cut version compared to the original DVD. But still very enjoyable.
Thinking that a lot of blunderites are at the same church right now listening to Arlo live is just great. :) Wishing you all a wonderful evening.

The dvd version of Alice's Restaurant that I've got has a really cool feature on it---after the full length movie plays, it plays again with the volume turned down some, and Arlo overdubs it with commentary, trivia and memories of scenes and people, where they are now, etc. It's as cool to watch as the movie!!!

I was surprised to hear that his buddy in the movie is or was a cab driver here in Austin!

TAXI !!!!!!!

I wonder how often he gets "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?"

It shows on IFC every now and then. We have two Tivos..both set record anything Arlo. One Tivo has two tuners and one of those doesn't work well. I'll check it out and if I have a good copy, the next time Hubby transfers stuff to DVD, I'll burn you a copy. I'm sorry to say we don't do it very often. He offered to teach me how to do it once, but I told him I wanted to keep my hair. (he pulls his out when he gets started...LoL) Fact is, if he did it more, he wouldn't forget how it works each time :D

It took me a couple of times watching it to really get in to it, but it really is a good movie...and star studded !

I made a note and I'll check with you next time we do it and see if you don't already have a copy by then.

Loved Roadside Prophets. Oddly enough, here in Stamford, our cable package doesn't give us IFC, but whenever we're up in Stockbridge, I can catch up on some good movies (including those with Arlo).

Thanks. It must've been on IFC that I saw it on. I only saw it the one time...

I had seen the last half of Roadside Prophets, but last night I finally got to see it from the beginning on Comcast's OnDemand (free). Arlo really did a great job! The story he told sounded just as if he were at The Church telling it!

After reading through the thread here, I put "Roadside Prophets" in my Netflix queue and then decided I needed to finally buy the "Alice's Restaurant" DVD...so I go to Amazon, and there's that review by Arlo asking me not to buy it...from April 2001, which is kind of awhile. I did a search here and see that it's been discussed, but not recently...is the boycott still on?

I've never heard of such a thing. What I do know is that my copy of "Alice's Restaurant" (dvd) has a design date on it of 2001, and Arlo himself gives a great scene by scene overdub commentary on its' 'special features'.

I believe he said on here that the boycott was off. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone else on here will have the right info. I need to get the dvd of it. Even Jerry Falwells neighbors have it & I don't lol. Sad isn't it...

I do recall the boycott being called off. They were playing at The Church a few years ago.
