How would I be able to obtain a copy of this?

I've been wanting to know about this one too but have never found it. I've never even heard it before as it was supposedly out before I became a blunderite. Time to relearn it & add it into your set list Uncle Arlo!

well, it might could use a little updating, but it is still so right for the times. Just today there was another story about retired generals urging a delay to the "Missile Defense Shield" program (1001 Betsy Ross's as we know it) in spite of the Bush Push to get it deployed... you know, the SDI, a carry over from the Raygun era.

Surprised I haven't seen the lyrics published, but maybe theres a good reason. I kinda feel sorry for McNamara, as he was the only one who ever apologized for the Vietnam war...

With all of the "Heads of the Government" so well known for their antics, and the notority of Ashcroft and his Patriot Act, I'm sure it could be easily transformed to modern times. Arlo if you're listening, I'd really like to see what you can do with it at the upcoming Milwaukee show...)

To answer the first post, not sure how Arlo feels about file swapping, but I have a real crummy taped version from a broadcast on Philly "underground" radio so many years ago... I was just musing about what were the chances we might ever hear it on the radio these days...

I'm sure their are better versions out there. It is a classic though. I particularly like the similarity of the electric piano to the scenes at the music school in the movie.

Now I know that you all want to go home and have your own third world war...

My brother made a clandestine tape recording (now lost) of one of your funniest shows, which as I recall was not about picking up garbage, so much as it was about the Giant Multicolored Rainbow Roach, and the best defense, using a life sized picture of the US with a picture of the sky on the other side. I would like to request that you revive this version, as many may not have heard it. Or at least, please, revive some of it. Just as soon as it comes around. Yours, with much feeling,

P.S. I can't say I know a lot about your dad, but I do know what it feels like to lose your guitar playing before its time. It's pretty sad. He gave us a lot, with his words and music, at least around my house when I was growing up. Later you did too. I became a Canadian because my parents did not want to be messed up by McCarthy in 1957, when I was 5, and also because I didn't want to be drafted in 1971. You had something to do with it too.

I think Arlo has done many versions of Alice's. Unfortunately, most of them are now lost.

I vaguely remember something about Rainbow Roach being on iTunes...

I also have this taped from a live performance on Gene Shey's radio show in Philly back some time in the late 70's.... I would love to find a better copy, also I remember another, 3rd version that Arlo did at one point.... unfortionatly I do not remember anything about the content... anyone know anything about any other versions of Alice?

My first Arlo concert was at Wolf Trap in 1974 and I remember him performing the "multi-colored rainbow roach affair"!

I believe - although I'm not sure... The Rainbow Roach is on the recent release: "Tales of '69" and is called "Alice - Before Time Began". I'm not sure if this is the same one on iTunes or the old Philly radio show version or somethings completely different. Perhaps Arlo could clarify. In the affair on Tales of 69 Arlo mentions there are 3 versions of the song... and no one likes them all, lol!

I think it's the same version circulating on iTunes from the radio program...I've heard them both, and they're very similar.
