I don't think that Arlo would mind if I post a plug in this forum but I happened to be looking at the Pete Seeger Appreciation web page. Seems that Pete has replaced that famous banjo head and is going to auction it off for charity. It is for a real good cause so check it out. I like his thinking. Seeger's banjo headed to Rock and Roll museum

CROTON-ON-HUDSON — An E-Bay auction of folk icon Pete Seeger’s banjo head was abruptly stopped Friday because his family feared it going into a private collection.
The banjo head, the body of the instrument, was part of Seeger’s banjo for the last 30 years. A local musical instrument repairman had put it up for bid with Seeger’s blessing, and bids on it had reached $6,400 by the time the man was summoned to the family home.
“The driveway was dotted with cars,” RJ Storm said of his arrival to the family meeting. Storm had received phone calls and e-mails from all over the country during the 10-day auction insisting that the banjo head should be in a museum. He said he’d fielded serious inquiries from the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
The head is ringed by the words “This Machine Surrounds Hate and Forces It to Surrender.” It was in Seeger’s hands when he played “This Land Is Your Land” at President Barack Obama’s inauguration; Seeger played it for his own 90th birthday at Madison Square Garden. Seeger conceded that it might be a better idea to donate the banjo head to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
“They already have an old banjo of mine,” Seeger explained. “This drum will go there. They have a corner there for me and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. It’ll be in good company.”
Proceeds from the auction were to go to a tree-planting project in Haiti by 2004 Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai.
“I sang last week for some Catholic nuns, the Dominican Sisters of Hope, and have decided to work with them to raise the money for Professor Maathai’s project,” the singer said.
