Not sure if this is the right forum to post this but I'm sure you'll let me know!

We are about to set off on what we like to call the ultimate American music road trip - visiting every place in the USA that has a place mentioned in a song title.

Obviously there are lots of songs from Arlo and Woody on our list already but we need to be sure that we've got them all.

While you're here, be sure to visit Okemah, the birthplace of Woody Guthrie. Not sure it's ever used in a song though. Just about 40 miles west of Okemah is Shawnee, and I know Woody used Shawnee in "Pretty Boy Floyd". Then another 30 miles and you're in Oklahoma City, which is in several songs. 90 miles NE is Tulsa, which very likely is used in more songs than any other town in the world. Oklahoma has more original miles of the old Route 66 than any other state, so you'd probably want to drive on at least a piece of it, just to say you did.

Way down near where I live is Idabel, OK, but whether you've ever heard "Idabel Blues" or not, I wouldn't know. I'd hazard a guess and say no. Google Stoney LaRue, he's the author.

but when you come to visit Alice's restaurant, remember the song was about what happened at the church? would you go to what was the restaurant, what is the church or edge your bets and visit both?

Thinking the Same thing .The restaurant is in Stockbridge which is also mention in James Taylors song "Sweet Baby James"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9MncdJ_lOs ,the Church is in Housatonic and both only 2 hours west of Boston .

When I came to visit in 2003 the cafe /restaurant as it is now was shut so couldn't go in, hay oh.

Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, we've got a lot of miles to cover but thankfully we're in no hurry. This year it's all states west of Nebraska so we won't be in OK until next year. We certainly will visit Okemah and you're right we didn't have "Idabel Blues" on our list but it's been added now so thanks for your contribution. We'll let you know when we're passing through - maybe we could meet up and say howdy?

I came Autumn 03 during Columbus weekend. I couldn't drive then so was reliant on Wildeflower for getting me from the airport and letting me stay the night at her apartment, Ceashel, cliffite, shelly for ferrying me around any distance and Terry al a Berry for taking me back to the airport (still very grateful for all their kindness). I was staying in great Barrington as that was the nearest to walk to the church, the day we went to stockbridge Teresa's was closed for the weekend.

I would love to come again but get get all four of us over there would be far too expensive now.

Sounds like a fun trip.
