Been looking on a Woodstock site and according to that there are two versions of the song spliced together

I have footage of Arlo at Woodstock doing "Walking Down The Line" and it is great. I was going to do another whole topic on this song and why it seems to have been deleted from the shows for the most part since the 70's. I just finished looking at the tape section of this site and only found the song done once in the 80's and once in the 90's. It was common before that. Evidently it is a Dylan tune but I have seen it portrayed as an old bluegrass standard. Who knows?

Anyway I love the old song and the band at the Woodstock show interests me as well. They sound great I think. Who were they? Who really wrote "Walking Down The Line"? Why is it never (seemingly) played anymore? I think the boss (A.D.G.) may have to staighten this one out.

Yes! I remember now! Arlo said he was disappointed that the version on Woodstock became more well-known than that on Running Down the Road, coz as a result they "had to learn to play it that bad!" That got a good laugh.

Acoording to the liner notes to Dylan's Bootleg Series, Vol. 1-3, it's a Dylan composition all the way. (The folks who put those liner notes are candid in discussing whenever Dylan stole a melody or a lyric for a song.)

I detected that very melody in "You Gotta Sing" from Sarah Lee's 1st album. Anybody else notice that?

Do you suppose that's because someone fell down the hole in the middle of the stage where all the cables were?

I have always thought it to be A Dylan composition.

I guess one reason I got confused on the origin of the song is the fact that when I wanted to print lyrics to the song I found them at a place called something like bluegraslyrics.com. I guess I made one mistake in thinking that if thats where you find the lyrics then it sure couldnt be Dylan's song.

Well wrong I was. It even says Lyrics by Bob Dylan. Its kind of funny. I love this tune and listen to it a lot. I have never heard Bob Dylan do it. I have actually heard a Bluegrass band do it. Then I have only two versions of Arlo doing it. Once at Woodstock and once on Together. To me it will always be an Arlo Guthrie song and I hope he will once again play it. It may be a good oportunity to get a little life out of some of the modern day dead ass audiences. Sorry I have been a bit disapointed in what seemed like lack of enthusiasm or audience participation which is sometimes a big part of folk music. Really this comes from a general bad time at a Roanoake, Va show a couple of years ago. Roanoake always sucks and I wish I didnt have to go back this year to see Arlo but it is the nearest venue. It was great when he played Greensboro, NC a few years but that has stopped for some reason. The staff and security are a bunch of hard nose stormtroopers at Roanoake. They abrubtly put the several fans who wanted autographs outside on a very cold night instead of allowing us to remain for a few like in other places.

Arlo is probably used to cold weather and toughed it out for us all. THANKS MAN!!!!Even had his own set of colored markers.

We were at the Roanoke show too. Those folks at the venue were real nosebleeds. They even searched ya on your way in like you were a criminal. I had to sneak my camera in. I remember waiting outside in the cold. I bet we saw ya there & didn't know who you were. I hope this place he is gonna be at in Roanke this time is much nicer & not such a nosebleed. We've been to see him a Greensboro, too...

What, is he going to be somewhere else in Roanoake besides the Civic Center? Unfortunately most of the time any decent act that comes to Roanoake comes to the Civic Center. I wish Arlo would play the Salem Civic Center (7 miles away) like Bob Dylan, and the Allman Brothers do. The people that run that place seem to be a little less Nazi like. Plus it is a good old fashioned open arena with floor seats/standing and bleachers. The little Roanoake place is stuffy, more like a movie theater than a concert hall.

Cheryl, I think I have seen maybe you at a few shows. I believe at Roanoake we walked outside together at gunpoint (just kidding)after the show to see the band. Isnt Arlo kind of familiar with you or am I thinking of someone else? I have met him a few times but I try not to be to gabby out of respect. Now that I have joined the Blunderground and have done a little leg work for the cause I am hoping maybe one day I will get to maybe help set up for a show. Maybe then I will get to talk to the boss a little more.

Anyhow if you or anybody reading know the name of the different Roanoake location. If there is one. I need to hurry up and get tickets!!!

I bet that was us. Yeah we're the ones that know Arlo. I bet at shows he goes Oh no not them again LOL. Baldwinville was at that show too & Petie & Martha. Good luck with getting a chance to setup at a show of his.

I think the place is some old school that converted itself & it's concert hall into some kind of concert place. I've never been to this venue before so it should be interesting. I hope it's better than Roanoake Civic Center. Should be fun as usual tho...
