One of my earliest memories in the 50's was hearing the song "Davy Crocket" (it was #1) on the radio and Hank Williams Sr.

Davy Crocket by Fess Parker was my favorite 45 as a kid. I still have it and just recently 're-found' it in a stack of old pictures. Now, as soon as I get this room painted and back in order I want to see if I can record it for my iPod.

Oh, I wish I still had my 'coonskin cap!' I was delighted, in my 30s, to learn that an older colleague at work had grown up with Fess Parker in San Angelo, Texas. Around that time I saw an old episode of Davy Crockett. We were kids, after all--who knew the acting was so bad? It didn't, and doesn't, matter.

Isn't that the truth! Several years ago I found a website that had old tv shows so I was able to see an episode of "Ramar of the Jungle" and some others. I was shocked at how fake that 'jungle' was. I'm not sure if "Sky King", "Davy Crockett" or "Annie Oakley" were available there or not (those were my favorites).

Oops...got away from the thread. Will try to be good next time.

I always spell it in my mind as "ki's" because it's obvious he's talking about a couple of kilos of pot!

I know he was talking about keys of pot. But as a parable as lots of songs are today, keys can have more than one meaning. Who is the lone ranger he was talking about? As Rodney Crowel wrote in a song about Johnny Cash, he thought the whole thing came down from out-of-space.

i guess arlo would be the one to answer this one. back in the day, pot meant pot and not wanting to be hassled by mr. customs man was not meant to mean anything else...lol of course, i don't really believe arlo saw a man standing on the runway while 1000 miles away sniffing planes as they landed and picking him out in seat 36C and people disappearing into a time tunnel but it makes for a very funny story!

It all still applies to today. Instead of MADD, looking out for our security, while sacrificing liberty, I want to start DAMM, Drunk Drivers Against Mad Mothers. Thats at least what I mean today by not touching my bags Mister Police Officer.

Nope, I don't believe Mr. FBI Narc could smell a plane from 1000 miles away. Now if Arlo would have left that part out and just said there was a narc standing on the side of the runway sniffing planes and sniffed him out as the plane landed, of course I'd believe that! (and I think I did hear him tell it that way back in the 80's). I also had trouble believing when he ate it, he floated around the plane. Too bad I don't do that anymore because I'd want to know where I could get some of that stuff...lol We were watching a History Channel show last night and I had to explain to my 40 year old hubby who has never considered drugs that smoking pot and doing LCD are not remotely similar...lol They made a reference to pot being mind-expanding and more like acid and I just had to explain that pot was good for feeling mellow and when you're stressed out but it never made me figure out the secret of the universe...lol And I'll stop there!

I ate a couple of "brownies" a few years ago, and I was flying around the room! I totally believe he ate it!

I believe the entire story, except for the part where that guy worked for the government. The government don't have people that smart or talented as a rule. :)

I beg to differ. I had a friend in school that they snatched up after we took those army tests. I saw him a few years later in Chicago (a long way from lower Alabama). He was in a three piece suit and said he couldn't tell me what he was doing. He hadn't really changed. We partied up the windy city.

He pretty much only showed up for school to take the six week tests. The rest of the time you could find him playing the harmonica in front of the local bakery.

Edited to say:

Step back nonbelievers
