Hi Melanie! What Arlo records to get? All of them!!!

Hi! Oh, I plan to get them all - I just can't get them all at once, unfortunately! I was only curious to see what others would recommend to someone just becoming acquainted with Arlo's artistry. From what I've read on here so far, I'd considered getting Outlasting the Blues (what a great title) and In Times Like These. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Len! Posted my last reply before I saw your note . . . that's one of the ones I've thought about getting. Besides loving that song, I'm planning to see Arlo again when he performs in Birmingham w/the Alabama Symphony in June . . . can't wait!

If I had to buy one Arlo Guthrie Record... not that I don't own them all, cept for the Leadbelly Tribute ones that are totally wierd. With him and Pete... Can't find em, and believe it or not one can listen to them online for free..

Arlo's been known not to cave into request. "What do you think this is a drive thru"?

But one church show, this guy in a wheel chair. Faces I remember. Names, sometimes not. But at the near end of a show, he yells out "Gabriels Mothers Highway Ballad #16 Blues" and Arlo started tellin the story of how him and Jackie, and James Taylor and his Ms. were living in an old farmhouse... and proceeded to sing that ol loveable song....

My wife and I said we'd meet up with our friends after the show for breakfast, and there was I wanna say George..And his sweetest girlfriend.. Having breakfast. We didn't stare, and it was late. But 1/2 way thru our meal, having a late nite cup of Joe, to wash down some toast and scrambled eggs, he wheeled his chair over to our table. He asked me , 'Didn't I see you two at the show" and my reply, was "yes you did". & he said "wasn't Arlo so kind to do my request"? And I said "yes he was".... And our conversation went on & on & on... What a nice young man I met at Deisal Dans that night... We talked our brains out, of Arlo's Genious, to the pt. I finally had to shake his hand, as did my wife Sue, and tell the young lad, 'I think your breakfast might be getting cold... He said "yes your right" but before you leave, you have to meet my girlfriend... And we politely said hello, it's great meeting you two. Enjoy yur food...

How can you make this up... Never forget it.... It was another nite, shot to hell.... Fitzy wouldn't let me sleep, and dragged me downstairs to have yet another cup of coffee, and meet a bunch of folks, I still see most every other fall, and they're the kind of people you don't meet everyday...

I was able to stumble upon a few live recordings that are amazing. One of them was a radio broadcast of a song that Cisco Houston used to sing called St. James Infirmary. Though this isn't a song by Arlo, I enjoyed this version of it. Arlo was kind enough to sing it in concert a few weeks ago here in Salt Lake City. Albums are great, but any live recording is better because you never know what you're gonna get!
