Well I made it, just, after the usual "someone must have moved the venue, it was down hear the last time I came" my arse just touched my seat as the lights went down.


It was a great gig, can't remember the name of the lad that came on first, he was really good; but Arlo was great. I choked laughing at the Coming into Los Angeles and we got to listen to a little of 'The Woody Wires' which was a real treat, I'll look out for that next year for it comeing out. I can't remeber every song played, but there was a great selection, St, James infirmary: Hightway in the wind: Mr Tamberen man: City of new orleans: This land is your Land and some realy long song about someone called Alice

OK, previous sightings:

1972 - Crystal Palace Bowl (topping the bill which included Edgar Winter, Roxy Music, Barbara Dixon and The Chieftains - eclectic or what?!) Guthrie walks on and just says 'Howdie...' Looks about 18.

1988 - Harrogate, Yorks (playing to about 120 in an 800-seater venue) Son Abe is with him. Abe walks on and just plays keyboards - looks about 18.

2006 - Manchester (playing to a packed, intimate theatre of about 400). Guthrie walks on, Abe walks on, grandson walks on and plays drums - doesn't look anywhere near 18.

What is this? My whole freakin' life disappearing before my eyes...



Great gig as ever. Never heard 'Slow Boat' live before - and a big up to the non-Guthrie pedal-steel player.

We are beginning to love you over here, Arlo - at last. If you could possibly drop by again, soon, huh...

But on the bright side, Steve, Krishna will be 18 in just another 2 years (or 3?).

Yes, Arlo was great, we had a really good time - the first time we've seen him live and hopefully not the last. What a great raconteur and songwriter. Old-fashioned entertainment of the best kind. And I'm a sucker for a pedal-steel, so that was a bonus.

The lad on first was Sam Hammond. He's from Manchester, and as well as being a solo performer is the lead singer with The Deadbeats. They should have been with him, but apparently a family bereavement prevented one of the members attending, so he gave the band the night off and performed alone. The Deadbeats won last years 'Glastonbury Unsigned' competition, and as well as two appearances at last year's Glasto, they supported Jools Holland at the recent Glastonbury Extravaganza that Michael Eavis puts on in the town each year. If you like raucous footstomping electric country/folk in the vein of The Band, or Ryan Adams at his more upbeat, they're well worth checking out.

BTW Arlo is the best performer I have ever seen live in person and gets very addicting after your first time seeing him. Like magic at a refer party LOL!!

Manchester...Dancehouse Theatre....what a great night. Nice to hear the old songs, great version of Mr Tambourine Man, and good stories. A good crowd, friendly and in pretty good voice. I envy the people going over to Ireland to catch a show, that will be special, but for a family wedding I would have been there myself. And a special thanks for the Woody's Wire extract, a fascinating glimpse of the family history.

We are one big happy family like The Brady Bunch with a couple of differences instead of the youngest one in curls we got the oldest one in curls...Also some of us lovely girls have hair of gold like DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle Oh wait that is Full House ....Life is a TV sitcom ....I should start watching mircowaves in a spin off..time for a stiff drink

Ya know Arlo oughta do his own sitcom. He did great in Byrds so why not. It would be better than that crap they have on network tv now lol...

All you see on TV these days are reality shows. Who in the hell wants to watch ones personal life on TV? That is none of our business. What happened to those colorful peppier variety shows? Comedy sitcoms today are worth crap-gruesome and obnoxious IMO ...Hooray for TVLand that is all I ever watch nowadays.
Arlo oughta have a variety show an hours worth with part music and part comedy skits like back in the innocent days of the groove tube, no violence or profanity

I agree with ya. All I watch is mainly TVLAND & Christian stations. I miss the old shows. They sure don't have the variety shows anymore. The last one I remember was by some black comedian whose name I forget which was on a few yrs ago. It only lasted a few eps...
