Any elvis presly fans here? anybody here got any collectible items and any stuffs of elvis that want you want to share?

You should talk to my hubby Mike. He is Elvis biggest fan & collects everything on him. He's the Elvis expert in Arlo land lol...

hehehehe.. really? he collects some elvis stuffs too? what does he have? Does Mike have the "best" stuffs, i mean cd's of elvis like sun sessions, i think that's his first album and the one that really boomed during his time.

He's got records albums, cd's cassettes, 8 tracks, pictures, posters, books magazines & all sorts of other stuff of him. So I bet he has that cd too...

The latest Elvis stuff he has gotten would be the tv guides that are out this week which have different pics of Elvis on the front of them along with an unreleased cd of Elvis included with them & some new cd of him. Not sure of the name of it tho...

Elvis is OK, but if I had to pick an artist from the '50's, I much prefer Buddy Holly or Eddie Cochran. They played guitar & wrote songs, whereas Elvis was mainly an entertainer. Buddy's output of great songs matches that of Elvis---but when you figure that Buddy's was done basically over 2 years, while it was 20 years for Elvis, it's no contest.

The Sun Sessions is a great album--a classic, a must-have---but I don't care for much of what Elvis did after that. In fact, as I see it, what makes The Sun Seesions so great is the guitar work of Scotty Moore more than anything Elvis did.

A few years ago a coworker had a rock-n-roll catalogue on her desk. I looked thru it & saw that they were selling copies of Scotty's book, That's All Right Elvis, autographed by Scotty & D.J. Fontana, so I asked her if I could have the catalogue. The book is one of my prized possessions. (Good book!) Scotty is (deservedly) in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, & Bill Black & D.J. belong there, too.

A year or so ago, the Rock HOF received a letter recommending D.J. Fontana for induction, signed by Ringo, Charlie Watts, Levon Helm, & Max Weisberg. Don't know whether D.J. is being seriously considered or not, tho'.

Yep, he subscribes to TV Guide for us. The editions sent to the subscribers didn't have the cd with it. The versions sent to the stores came in 2 different covers with both having cd's with them. So we had to get the versions with the vcds & different covers at Walmart...

What did you do to the extra copy of your tv guide? I have a copy of tv guide but i didnt know that they have free cd's.

I like Elvis stuff even after he kicked Scotty outta the band.

For great hip shakin rock (of the sorta billy genre) I recommend

Jack Scott (notably the way I walk is just the way I walk)
Conway Twitty (great rock stuff before becoming the Twitty Icon my fav's are "I Vibrate (From My head to my Feet and THe PickUp (Wolf Whistle, I think she's great,Think I'll Ask her for a date)
Wanda Jackson (with Roy Clark or James Burton on the Guitar, I love that Funnel of Love recently Wanda remade it with Poison Ivy playing that nasty eminor riff)
Johnny Horton (the original I'm Comin' Home out rocks the Lost PLanet Airmen Version)
and don't forget the slightly more honky tonk but rockin
Hank Thompson (usually with Merle Travis on the Guitar Hey Hey Mr Bartender, Please Don't be so slow)

The versions with the cd's are selling in stores like Walmart. Why they didn't include it for the subscribers I'll never know. Probably to make them have to spend $$$ on another copy to get the cd...

That's a great list, PSB. Ever hear Dale Hawkins? He did some pretty wild stuff on the old Chess label back in the late '50's, complete with crazy sax solos, Tarzan yells, the whole works. At one time or another, his band featured guitarists Roy Buchanan (he did the solo on "My Babe"), Scotty Moore, & James Burton. Musta been something to see live.

Glad to see you include Burton on your list. I always tell folks that he was one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but they all look at me like I'm crazy. I guess he's best known as Ricky Nelson's guitarist. Instead of breaking new ground, he preferred to play on commercial records, so that he could, in the words of Pres. Bush, "put food on his family." Can't blame him for that. But the man could play.

James Burton is one of my favorites also. When I listen to those old Ricky Nelson records what I'm really listening to is James Burton's guitar work. Enjoyed his work with Emmylou Harris also. I was very happy when he got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When I was there in October I made it a point to look at his name on the wall.
