I'm not sure that I'm posting this in the right spot but here goes. I just got back from the Woody Guthrie exhibit in New York City. It started out being one of those days and I almost didn't go. It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to get there and it was worth every minute. The exhibit was wonderful. It made me think about a lot of things that I hadn't thought about in a long time. There were a lot of Woody's quotes for everyone to read. I wish there had been a book available about the exhibit. If anyone one knows of one please let me know, I'd love to have it. There were also a lot of drawings done by Woody. It's interesting that people who are talented artistically are artistic in different ways. There was a video at the end with comments from different performers anbout how Woody influenced their music. Some sang part os songs and some quoted Woody.

good point lee! When we made the blunder trip to the exhibit, i spent a bit of time in the gift shop, and beyond finding some very cute music boxes shaped like different Baseball stadiums of New York past and present (and played "Take me out to the Ballgame"), I did NOT see any book or catalog offered for the exhibit. They did have some (overpriced) CD's of the Smithsonian recordings of Woody, but no book. They've missed an opportunity, and it's our loss as well.

I am also disappointed that the Smithsonian has not put together a catalog, poster, or some sort of educational materials to accompany the Guthrie Exhibit. Maybe they will add something when the exhibit arrives at the Smithsonian in May.

We saw the Woody Guthrie exhibit at the Smithsonian last July ... they had a pamphlet available all about the exhibit & that was about it ... outside of some CDs and books for sale in the basement bookstore.

At a nearby Washington bookstore, the sales clerk said the Smithsonian was closing down the Guthrie exhibit earlier than they had previously announced ... & had upset a lot of people in the process. I never got the entire story ... but the exhibit itself was a true treat -- informational, educational and, best of all, free!

Wow, we went to that one too! It was fun! I think they closed it down early cuz the Smithsonian wanted to have the room for another exhibit which wasn't as impportant. I remember Arlo's sister Norah (Haven't had the chance to meet her or Joady yet) was upset about it & I think they had to cuz of that keep it open a little longer. Great exhibit!
