Just a note to Jim Capaldi whose birthday is today. Jim, who registered here in '99, happens to have THE best Pete Seeger website called Pete Seeger Appreciation Page. So, happy birthday to Jim and many thanks and appreciation to him for having the best Pete Seeger site around!

I too, happened to be channel surfing and accidentally stumbled on to part of the documentary about the Hudson River. In what little I saw, I saw Pete twice. Once in short interview and at the end of the show playing his banjo and singing near the banks of the Hudson River. His lyrics in his song tell it like it is. The show is called, "America's First River: Bill Moyers on the Hudson River", where journalist Moyers travels from New York harbor to the Adirondack forest to explore the dramatic history, complex ecology, profound natural beauty and far-reaching legacy of the famous waterway. Pete performed at the NYC Peace rally today, in front of hundreds of thousands of people, and broadcast worldwide. He sang "Over The Rainbow", which had when you think about it, special significance for such an event. He aptly changed a few words in the last verse:"If happy little bluebirds fly over the rainbow, then why can't YOU OR I?". At almost 84 his voice is pretty wavery, but his burning passion has only increased and he carried that in his brief moments on the podium.

We were part of the march and could only hear him live on the radio, several streets away due to the throngs of people. But what a distinct pleasure and honor to know he was a part of the march, that we were a part of the march and that he is and always will be, a part of us. Bless him.

The first time --but not the last-- that I heard Pete perform with his grandson, Tao Rodriguez Seeger, was at the base of the World Trade Center in May of 2001. He sang "This Land Is Your Land," and "If I had A Hammer," and taught us a nursery rhyme to tell the grandchildren. Some of us don't have granchildren though. He was on a platform in front of a glass atrium, and it was a sunny afternoon. I bought an over-priced sandwich, and a bottle of water. I was not sorry for making that trip down there. The End.

I thought I'd post this here... if you aren't too far from Greenwich, NY (Northeast of Albany) you may want to attend... I'm going to try to get there.

Sat. May 10th 4pm: "Voices for Peace and Hope” Forum featuring songwriter/folk hero Pete Seeger and Voices in the Wilderness traveler Joe Quandt, hosted by the United Church in Greenwich. Dr. Mary Nell Morgan will moderate the event. Tickets are available for a donation of $5.00 or more, with proceeds to benefit the Iraq Peace Team. The church is located on 37 Salem St. in the Village of Greenwich (just left off Rt. 29). For info call Lori: 518-580-0547
