I saw Richie in Rochester this last spring, with Janis Ian. It was a great show. He interspersed his songs with a lot of anecdotes and so forth...a lot of people don't like that, but I know I do. He had some really great stories. Afterwards he did a meet and greet...really great show.

alright, so i'm saying that this is my last try... Tonight at the Barns of Wolf Trap is Richie Havens. My last impediment of getting there was a hurricane... tonight, there is snow. Of course, my luck. It came down at about noon and has been going since. But i paid too much to try and turn back tonight. The guy at wolf trap said the roads weren't bad from the snow and that it was only in the grass. i hope he's right. this may end up being a very sad experience if i don't make it. maybe it wasn't meant to be. i couldn't say.

SUCESS! and how AWESOME! he was soooo amazing. he has this guitar player who is kind of like Arlo's Gordon. Except he only plays guitar, but he's the guitar tech/everything else. it was so cool. richie havens is probably one of the most exciting energies i've ever experienced. even when you're in the very back row of the balcony, he still makes you happy to listen too. i love it when music does that too me. it was so well worth the wait... and the roads weren't too bad. i let dad drive though, he's better at it than i am.
ps. as usual, it seemed i was the youngest person at a folk concert who was there willingly.

I had the pleasure of seeing *hearing* Richie Havens in Potsdam NY at the 'Crane Music Hall' in 91? Once in a lifetime experience (front row center). As mentioned Richie had many a metaphor for his songs, this life we all share, ect. It was almost as interesting hearing Richie tell his story's as it was listening to his passionate guitar playing... (is the original guy from Woodstock still playing guitar with him)? Been outta touch. AND I can't remember his name.

Richie worked himself into a lather (sweat) breaking strings on his guitar on his finale. The song Freedom... It took Wavy Gravy to literally help him off stage, patting him on the back, explaining "Richie things will be okay.... Chill man. Are you allright?" 3000 people caught up in the moment, and the theme was Freedom.. No one can say the word freedom as enthusiastically as Richie Havens!!! After going back stage my friend (who I had just met actually--- back in my hitch-hiking days) got auto-graphs and Richie gave him a broken guitar string. The dude insisted it too dark for me to hitch home, & he drove 80 miles outta his way to give me a ride home. ntm: 2 of my friends. His girlfriend had to sit on my friends lap, as there wasn't much room in his car.

The most light hearted story I love of Richie, is him explaining how poor he was when the movie Woodstock was made. All about his motor-cycle (car) accident? and him losing most all his teeth. He sure has a great dentist, because he has a million dollar smile these days!

million dollar smile or not, Richie is a great spirit. A force that will long outlive the man!

the guy from woodstock wasn't there. the new guy said he's been playing with him for 4.5 years. Walter Parker. he's really good. he adds a lot of affect to Richie's sound.

he mixed Tupelo Honey with Just Like a Woman... how cool.

he has pretty funny things to say too... over all... 2 thumbs up+ other non-offense limbs as well.

Uh, that's Walter Parks. He has his his own band called Swamp Cabbage. He is really good. Nice guy, too!

Mr Breton, you might want to take this to another forum, but anyway, this might work. M=major, m=minor, 7=dominant7th, dim=diminished, GM/D=D is the lowest note here, while playing the Gmajor chord. I don't know if the song is in G, haven't listened to it in awhile. Just listen to your recording and transpose as needed. If you want to play it like the recording, you might have to get yourself a clamper, I don't know. Maybe the maestro himself could answer that question. Same changes for each verse. If this gets garbled in transmission and isn't readable, let me know and I'll post it another way.
