Tonight on American Dreams, my mom called me into the rooms to hear the song playing. She said "Listen, it's Bob Dylan!" I listened and then just looked at her until she looked back and said, "Oh wait! No, it isn't! It's Donovan!"

And laughter insued... I love that my folks and i laugh at things like that.

I caught some of that. I like that show. They were playing his Catch The Wind song which does sound Dylan like...

Donovan was one of the greats, too! Not as approachable and folksy as our Arlo, perhaps due to his British upbringing, but I loved his music as a kid. I always think of purple and insence when I think of Donovan!

He might just have had his monocle in the wronge eye and couldn't see who you were. Being British, I know that that happens a lot.

Yup, yup, yup, as my 15 year old says. I'm sure that was it, but I've only seen him once in concert. I can't count the times I've seen and chatted with Arlo! Gosh, I'm old!! LOL! Now I'm the one who needs the monacle! I have to say, I think Arlo's getting a little myopic, too... but who isn't if ya grew up with his Blunderness? So much for distrusting anyone over 20, huh?

Donovan (Leitch I believe his last name is spelled), had a number of hits including the aforementioned Catch The Wind, Hurdy Gurdy Man, and Atlantis. I have a few Donovan albums in my collection, still in mint condition.

Can anybody tell me if arlo.net still hosts a chat? I find the comradarie has been lost here. I miss Janice From The Sky.

I saw Donovan once & on that night he revealed that part of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" was actually written by George Harrison, when they were together visiting the Maharishi, but no songwriting credit was given coz of all the leeches who were claiming rights to all of the Beatles' song-writing.

LOL...that's right. Donovan was a part of that whole Maharishi Yogi retreat. Even back then, when everything the Beatles did was cool, I thought the Maharishi thang was a bit off the scale. But then again, LSD can make a person do a lot of weird things.

Thanks for the tidbit on Harrison's co-write of Hurdy Gurdy Man. I did not know.
