As is old news by now, Billy Bragg has put some Woody lyrics to music in recent years.
Thanks to the Woody Guthrie Archives and Nora Guthrie. This past weekend I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Janis Ian perform, and she too has been invited By Nora to put music to some Woody lyrics, which she did and performed at her show.
I am sorry, but I did forget the name of the tune.
This would seem a good thread to keep up with this sort of thing!

Ain't the internet grand? After posting a question asking the title of this song on Janis' message boards, Janis replied with the title of the song "Mother Sing Again" and informed us that the song will be on her next studio release in March 2004.

I've always been impressed with Janis with her replying to questions and interacting in general with her fans on her message boards. (you're good at that too, Arlo). Exciting to hear Janis is among the formally chosen by Nora to assist in resurrecting Woody's lyrics in musical format. A fond and kindred appreciation for the Guthrie's and their music was shared with me when I met Janis after a show a year or so ago. Move over Ani! Hey, whadda ya know... ani and ian!

My Bugle Calls For Peace, Lyrics: Woody Guthrie, Music: Jeff Plankenhorn, First public performance at The Guthrie Center, 8-13-03 at the "Ribbon Of Highway-Endless Skyway" show. If you were there you heard it first! Performed by Eliza Gilkyson, Ellis Paul, Jeff Plankenhorn and Michael Fracasso. As far as I know this song has not yet been recorded in the studio. It will most likely see the light of day when the Ribbon Of Highway live cd is released.
