I just found this page, I have been an Arlo fan for a long time (ever since hearing the motorcycle song as a wee babe in my moms arms )I have to say it has been kind of sad reading through some of the posts and finding so many death announcements (Mickey Newbury etc.) I am also a big Hoyt Axton fan and am trying to find out if there are any long lost Arlo and Hoyt tapes floating around out there. Also I remember seeing something somewhere that Hoyt and Arlo were cousins, is this true?
I will be checking back to see what is new from time to time. I live in B.C. Canada and would love to see a show if Arlo ever swings out this way.

actually, it was on a Woody Guthrie special called "Hard Travelin'" on PBS...there is a soundtrack to that still available on CD (I think?)and they do a song together on that. maybe someone else knows if there's some other stuff out there...

Yep, they are cousins. In fact Arlo sings with Hoyt on on of his albums on a song called ROLL YOUR OWN which was written by the country singer Mel Mcdanile who had out the hit BABY'S GOT HER BLUE JEANS ON. I have the album but I forget the name of it...

I have the roll your own. Also Arlo did lightening bar blues which is a Hoyt song. I don't remember if Hoyt sang on that. I was hoping there might be some other stuff out there. Where is Arlo with some information for us.

Yes, and if you listen real hard, you just might hear Hoyt singing with Arlo on the song "Lightning Bar" on the "Hobo's Lullaby" album--I think...am I right?

Kev,Arlo mentioned that he and Hoyt were cousins when he was telling stories at the Ithaca concert.
Welcome by the way, I too am pretty new here. My mom bought me the 45 of City of New Orleans (Days are Short on the B side) back in '72 or thereabouts and I've been a fan ever since. By the way I am also Canadian (Southern Ontario but now living in the USA)

Hoyt wrote the song lightning bar blues, and did background for Arlo. I don't know if Hoyt ever recorded it, I don't have it on any of my records of his.
