I saw Art Garfunkel with Buddy Mondlock and Maia Sharp last night at the Egg in Albany... Wow...what an incredible show! And better yet, we were front row, center!

Art has been writing, and the new album, "Everything Waits to be Noticed" includes six songs he wrote (many starting as poetry in his book "Still Water")

The show opened with Buddy Mondlock solo for a couple of tunes, including "New Jersey Sunset" and the very upbeat "Magnolia Street". Then Maia Sharp took the stage for a few as well(I really liked her "Long Way Home"). These two musicians are phenomenal, and I'll be picking up some of their work as soon as I can.

Art joined them for one song, then a brief intermission. The second part of the show opened with Art singing "American Tune" and "Heart in New York" - Phenomenal... The man's voice is still right there for you! Later in the show, "Scarborough Fair" with the counterpoint provided by Maia Sharp's soprano saxophone... wonderful! The Kleenex had to come out for "All I Know" and for "Bridge" and he mentioned the breakup of S&G during the intro for "Mrs. Robinson" (Heehee! He said the reason they broke up was that Simon wouldn't accept that the line should have been "Jesus loves you more than you ever knew - woo woo woo") I think he's letting go of some of the bitterness of that situation.

Intertwined among the old favorites, the trio performed songs from the new album. I especially like "Bounce" "The Thread" and "Perfect Moment"

It was a marvelous show, and I would highly recommend it to you if he's playing in your area!

Ive seen Art Garfunkel a couple of times in the city, but always with Paul Simon. The first couple of notes of Bridge, played alone on the the grand piano...sent shivers through me, I can still feel. He is wonderful. I also always liked his James Taylor"esque" lack of "self" importance.

I also wanted to mention to anyone interested that my son got paid for a successful DJ job he did last night (and although that is a wonderful thing, that's not what I thought you'd be interested in...although any artist that gets paid is great NEWS!!!) But he bought me the new Johnny Cash (American IV) CD on the way up to my house tonight. On it Johnny Cash sings Bridge over Troubled Water. It is not so sweet as ArtG but very stirring. The JC CD also has First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, (written by Pete Seegers almostbutnot-brotherinlaw) Desperado (I thought RobB would like that for some reason...maybe I thought I heard him say he likes that song), I'm So Lonesome I could Cry, Streets of Laredo, and In My Life. There are also some wonderful songs that he covers from more modern musicians, and two new Johnny Cash songs. I would HIGHLY recommend the CD. Im on cloud 9...The ride in to work will be a good one tomorrow...
