We seem to be losing a lot of the great ones lately. This weekend marked the passings of senator and presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy and comedian Richard Pryor.

Mr. McCarthy was 89 and suffering from Parkinson's disease. Mr. Pryor died of a heart attack.

Gene, you showed us that peace is something to be striven for and that there are still a few, yes...even some politicians, who have integrity, are honest, and will persevere even when the odds are against them.

Richard, you made us laugh....a lot! And you made us think about everything from politics to racism to everyday things that we do or take for granted, and to keep on keepin' on even in the face of adversities, in more ways than I can count.

Thanks to you both. If our journeys continue, may you both have calm seas with the wind at your back. Sail on.

Both Gene McCarthy and Richard Pryor were a part of my coming of age.... Gene, with his true belief that PEACE is not only possible, but incumbent upon us to create... and Richard Pryor with his cutting edge humor.

They earned their places in heaven (if you believe in such).
