Our illustrious Secretary of Defense has clarified recently released photographs showing our handling of Iraqi citizen-prisoners by defining the actions depicted
in them as "abuse", not "torture". By that definition, I guess the extermination of millions of undesirables by Herr Hitler was not "genocide" but "euthanasia".

Rumsfeld's just got to go, and soon. You know the only reason Bush is not firing him is because he (Bush) never makes mistakes. I wish I could be a fly on the wall in that chamber tomorrow, because the congressmen are gonna be reaming old Rummy out a new asshole with their questions.

I heard on my local Public Radio station that Rumsfeld is giving the commencement address at West Point on May 29. The commencement is open to the public. That's only about a two-hour drive from where I live.

I am considering the possibility of attending that event.... maybe with a sign saying Rumsfeld Must Go! (Don't know if I have the guts to actually do this... I'm looking at possibilities.)

Maybe while Rummy is at the Point he can join in the fun of hazing a few plebes.

Notice that the administration carefully picks his spots for appearances; West Point, you say, why not the commencement address at the New School in downtown NYC?

I've put out a few feelers with the local Justice and Peace group... see if there is interest in mounting a protest... I don't think I could handle doing this alone, but I'd definitely be there with a group, if it can be coordinated. (Unfortunately, I'm not an organizer... I'm a noise maker... but I've put a bug in the ear of some organizers...)

...can't really say much....it's gut-wrenching and unimaginable.....maybe i'm just flashing to the ol' days...but it's starting to feel alot

Yet when was asked about assuming any responsiblity for the the steady stream of body bags returning from Iraq, Rumsfeld responds:

"Every person who is killed or wounded is a heartbreak, certainly for me and for their families and for their loved ones. In this conflict every single person is a volunteer... Every person there put up there hand and said, 'Send me, I want to participate in the defense of our country."

After much thought, and a bit of discussion with a friend, I've decided not to pursue the possibility of protesting at the West Point graduation on May 29. I have a great deal of respect for those who choose the military life. Many of these people do so for the best of reasons - they feel called to serve our country. I would be remiss if I were to cast a shadow upon a day of great importance to those new Army officers (though I still feel just as strongly that Rummy has to go). I will, instead, take my complaint to Washington on June 5, and participate in the anti-war rally being sponsored by International ANSWER.
