Post subject: NPR Top #100 songs
PostPosted: Sat Aug 31, 2002 11:20 pm

National Public Radio published a list of what they consider to be the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th Century. Maybe you can get there by using this: http://www.npr.org/programs/specials/vote/100list.html
but I'm not good at this sort of thing, and I can see it isn't blue, like it is when Star or Levi or Sparkydon put those in. Anyway, many of them are favorites of mine ("Oyo Como Va" and "Dock of the Bay") and many more I'm not familiar with at all. But "Goodnight Irene" made the list, and of course "This Land Is Your Land" did as well. It's really an interesting site because if you click the blue writing on the song title, it will tell you all sorts of things about the song. Is that cool or what!

Your link works just fine Batty, the site it's self was very slow to load and when I clicked on the "Route 66" information it kicked me right out of the site, but it is a wonderful source of information and well worth the read.

oh yes it is batty, it's blue as blue can be...and it works!

"i wanna be sedated" by the ramones made it i see...(i knew the guy who i believe was the sole inspiration for that group) (well, not really, but...)

...and i remember "let's stay together" by al green...that were a long time ago and i were but a kid, but i loved listening to al green. (man! what is it about music sometimes?)

and bob dylan "going electric" at newport with "like a rolling stone", fantastic song...'course the first version i heard was from jimi hendrix (live at monterey) (on tv of course sometime after the fact) ...and lawd knows he went electric with it, not to mention...

"smells like teen spirit" by nirvana, good album.

lot's of good stuff, (blah, blah, blah...)
...and i developed a new appreciation for the song "stand by your man" after watching "the blues brothers"...really, i did!

ps...i imagine "this land..." would make most lists of this kind...it was (and still is) everywhere! from when i was a wee young'n in grade school on the "specials days" when this burly bearded fella (i remember his name even) came in with his "little guitar" (ukulele, he taught us was the real name for it) with the plunky sound and played songs for us inviting us to sing along ("this land..." being a standard in his repertoire)...all the way to now (that i've come to find out that the song was written by arlo's dad!) (the first time i saw him in concert, he sang it, and i was clued in at that time).
