*As far as the 'Harry Potter' books, my sister Marie (52 yrs. young) has read them all. Being an elementary teacher in MD. she started reading them out of boredom, and quickly got hooked. I highly value her opinion, and taste. My wife Sue has also read all the books. She loved them, which surprized me.

i have some commitments that will keep me from joining in until after thanksgiving. then the holidays come up, so right now i can't promise to be there until after the first of the year, although i can try.

i've been pretty busy too and probably won't be ready for another bookclub book till after the holidays, but i agree with rob and hope that anyone else that expressed an interest in the Harry Potter book will go ahead. maybe sueb will join this time!!

I just finished Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World--Science As A Candle In The Dark".

Wonderful. Specially in dark days like these.

I spoke with 'members' and it was mutually agreed upon, after the holidays would be best for reuniting the club. I didn't sence any diss-interest. Quite the contrary.

*As suggested anyone wanting to run with this, would prove interesting. As stated before new members are welcome. Lead the way.

I'm in for the book club. I'm in for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. lcj's Sagan book sounds really good, too.

Besides being somewhat allergic to responsibilities, right now I have some family ones that preclude my making promises about my time, so I can't help lead.

I've read the Potter books and will be getting the Sagan book whether or not the BBC covers it, so say when and where, and I'll try hard to be there.

Way cool... I get to read the books for a second time, with good reason, then! I have the first three, in paper, my granddaughter has the first four in hardcover... she has read them all three times already (at age and is now reading the Chronicles of Narnia. Maybe we can create a generation of readers, after all????

Book five is now due out in the spring of 2002.... delayed because JKRowling was hung up with promotional stuff and the movie. They are being cautious about the licensing of Harry... according to an interview I read, Harry will never be seen in the movie with a Coke in hand, and they are not allowing the typical MickeyD or BK kids meal toy promotions.

I have to admire a single mom who wrote the stories in order to provide for her daughter! That's about 65 million pounds worth ($100,000,000.00) so far! they don't need the garbage promotions from MickeyD!!!

The thing that so impressed me with 'Harry Potter And the Sorcerer's Stone'.

*there's an anology (first few chapters) about music. I'll save the quote for the meeting (or someone post it, no big deal)
But it suggest that music has the strongest (again paraphrasing) power, that anything can behold....Seeing this is a book about magic, I found that powerfull...

Hey, Ceashel, thanks for the tip on the group W board. I don't think I'd have "blundered" in on my own. Thanks too for the tip on actually reading the Harry Potter books--will be starting on them as soon as I can pry them from my niece's hands.
