Congrats to Al Franken, the first guy to be a comedian BEFORE he was a senator. Of course most wait until after........intended or not.......

At least if Al is caught in a sex scandal all the media can whip up is, "So what? He was on SNL for chrissakes!"

I forget which comedian it was that once commented on political sex scandals by saying he was trying like hell to get involved one without much success.

Didn't Al Franken imitate senators on SNL? Guess it's another case of life imitating art. Anyway, just because the dems now have a "professional" comedian in their senatorial ranks, I think the GOP still outnumbers them in terms of comedy as an "unintended consequence."

I can see a staff meeting with Al, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Harold Ramis, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Jane Curtin and [people like that. I think they may leave Dennis Miller out.

They might really get shit done! I mean comedians probably can do more than the clowns on the other side.....right?

actually, this portends a reunion with Tom Davis. I would imagine that everytime Al goes up to the podium, he would be preceeded with an announcer introducing the NEW Franken & Davis show!

And now that he's on the "inside", the author of "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot" and "Lies, and the Lying Liars that Tell Them" will be able to write with more authority; his presence might expose multitudes of malfeasance.......I think he will be an active and effective Senator, as long as doesn't get transformed into one of "THEM"

I have this mental image of Al Franken and Bernie Sanders having lunch together in the Senate Dining Room. Wouldn't it be great to be at that table--just to listen.

I wonder if he has to make up the eight months he missed? You know, kind of like schools having to make up snow days. With all of the time that the Senate takes off, it would probably only take a month!

One would hope that they use the time that they are not in session to actually read up, talk about, and educate themselves on the issues and bills that they will be voting on.
I'm guessing it might work in our favor for SOME of them. As far as others.......well, perhaps some of them could quote the folkslinger and proclaim" I didn't know anymore after thinking than before I'd begun".

I'd like to see the day planners of some of these people.

9:00-9:59... Breakfast
10:00-10:29... Coffee break
10:30-10:35 ...Staff meeting
10:36-10:37...read up on issues.
10:38-11:59...raise campaign funds
12:00-12:59...2 martini lunch
1:00-2:59...tryst with new hot intern
3:00-3:59... order flowers and candy for spouse.
4:00-4:05... vote on stuff
4:06-6:59....Happy Hour.
7:00-9:00...3 martini dinner
