Hey Doug! Thanks for posting the Rosanne Cash article, it was really interesting and lots of fun to read.
As for the composition, (I like it, whatever that means), it made me feel......this is what it says to me: it begins with a human being questioning why we live in a world so full of despair and uncertainty.......generally a negative perspective. Then a revelation ocurrs (I think that the revelation event is more significant than the actual nature of the revelation). The writer becomes empowered by realizing that only by taking ownership of one's self while surrendering the notion that one can own or control what is external is the only train going his way. Now a focus on the positive rather than the negative is contageous, and permeates and influences this person's entire existence. Gone is fear and uncertainty. The writer (the thinker, the feeler) ultimately comes to the realization that we have some things inside of us that can never be taken away, but we can always give them away. These are the things that are eternal......

This episode of Spectacle: Elvis Costello With... aired right after my father in-law died. A couple of the songs echoed feelings of what my family is going through.

In her blog the question was asked by Rosanne, “Who owns the truth?”

Maybe the truth can’t be owned.

Maybe facts are separate from the truth.

A fact is - There is a beautiful pond in the woods.

The truth is the rippling water resulting from a pebble cast into this pond.

The truth is in the way Rosanne’s dad once spoke to her with only a foot tap.

My wife and I watched this wonderful episode and were touched by the truth and beauty of every song.

This show is worth watching. Locally on Wednesday nite on Sundance.
