Tom Paxton and Arlo have been singing "I'm Changing My Name to ... (first) Chrysler (and now) Fannie May" for years. Tom's humorous song suggests that we can adopt the name and get some government dough from where the endless streams of money seem to flow.
In real life now, companies are changing their identities to become "bank holding companies" to be eligible for government bailouts.

American Express was among the first to play this angle.

Here's today's bit on GMAC:
GRAND BLANC, Mich. (AP) -- The financing arm of General Motors Corp. wasn't immediately saying early Saturday whether it had met a midnight deadline to clear a final hurdle in its quest to become a bank holding company, which would allow it to access billions in federal bank bailout money.

Sometimes I wish life could be as simple as folksongs. And then I realize, it is.

"When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?"

Sad to say, I think they've learned quite well. (I know what you mean, but there's that perspective, too. It sucks.)

So, what we've got to do is....."Teach.....our children well....." .....simple, like folk songs.....all we can do is the best we can.....Like Arlo says, if we can take care of the little things in our lives, the "little peace", the "little truths", the big stuff will take care of itself. It's the best and only place to start.....

Do people really think they can solve their differences with rockets and air strikes?

Each side telling their friends and loved ones as they lay dying, victims of todays newest retaliation, "Don't worry, we will kill them all."

Meanwhile, some skidmark is getting rich selling anything they can to help kill more.

Israeli officials know they can count on the Bush administration's support, but are less sure about Obama.

The timing of the cease-fire ending and 3 weeks of w left before the new sheriff comes to town, may have come into play.

Look for things to get much worse over the next few weeks.

One president at a time would work if w=1.
