My thought ( I am in the minority here, but thank you for your tolerance), is that Hillary has made Barack a stronger runner. The race is tight. Barack may be winning, but it is not by a significant margin. To unite the party, he spoke of her in his final sentence tonight. We sensed a unification, all 3. Who would have thought in Western Michigan this would even happen , it is Republican territory , yet > 5,000 were turned away from the rally due to lack of seating, or (some said) a right winged consipiracy!!

Have the Republicans put something in the water over there???? I can't believe that people who call themselves Democrats are threatening to vote for a Republican in Nov if their "chosen one" doesn't win the nomination. The Repubs must be rubbing their hands with glee!
Sure Hils and Barrack have been going head to head but shoulden't we all pull together in Nov to avoid another catastrophy!!
We have a saying in OZ "Wake up Australia"!!!! Well WE here did last Nov and changed the Govt for the good.

I don't have cable so get my US election news from Lehrer and some stories on our thinking persons TV channels. The rest I get from reading the headlines online. Some of the comments and blogs are darn nasty!!
I just shake my head in disbelief. It reads more like Dems and Repubs having a go at each other, instead of Obama and Hils followers.
Of course I'm just ranting because the people who should be reading this don't come here, thank goodness for all of you and this place, where right from adg down, we can all put our feelings on this forward without being attacked by people who, like most of us, are suppose to want a change in Nov. And those who areREAL Republican backers can also have their say in peace.

MG, that's so great that you were there. I got to hear some of the Edwards speech while on my way home from work that evening--Rachel Maddow just turned her AirAmerica program over to broadcasting it. There were some tears of joy and hope in that VW when Edwards said we can do it (yes, we can!), but it's going to be a difficult fight. And I think you're right that the difficult struggle for the nomination has created strength that will be needed. It's going to take all true patriots of every ideology and party to get this country back on track. And I think we'll be facing some of the sacrifice that should have been asked of us when we were told to go shopping.

... and we're STILL being told to go shopping... Wouldn't it be neat if we all were to take our "stimulus check" and donate it to the candidate of our choice?!? (I can't ... the gov isn't giving me my check, it's taking it back toward my student loan debt)

"Next time, we're not going to have to prove that the public will vote for a woman. We won't have to prove competency. She has succeeded at that level."

Wilson pointed to several women with promising political futures who could one day seek the White House: Democratic Govs. Kathleen Sibelius of Kansas and Janet Napolitano of Arizona; Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; and Republicans like Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and business executive Carly Fiorina. However, none has the name recognition, fundraising network or political connections Clinton was able to draw upon from the early days of her run.

Clinton's pioneering candidacy also won't necessarily mean the next female contender is going to have an easier time of it, warns Walsh.

"It will still be rough for women to come after her," she says. "They'll have to walk that balance of being strong and tough, compassionate and soft. When you're tough, you're called shrill, and the B-word. When you mist over, they say you're weeping."

To feminist writer Linda Hirshman, Clinton's likely defeat signals a harsh reality that future female candidates will need to consider.

"It shows how fragile the loyalty and commitment of women to a female candidate is. That's a pretty scary thing," says Hirshman. "She can count on the female electorate to divide badly and not be reliable."

For their part, Obama advisers said they believe that most of Clinton's female supporters will come their way eventually and won't throw their backing to Republican John McCain. The New York senator has already pledged to work actively on behalf of the Democratic nominee.

Many Clinton supporters hold out hope that Obama might consider choosing Clinton as his running mate. And since she is still relatively young at 60, some can envision another presidential bid.

Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, who is supporting Obama, said his campaign was well aware of the disappointment Clinton's female supporters are likely to feel if she loses the race.

"I think the most important thing is that we stay focused on being incredibly respectful and admiring of who Hillary Clinton is as a person and what she represents as a leader," McCaskill said. "She's run a very strong race and deserves the passionate support she's received. I think the respect in the Obama campaign is genuine � we don't have any problem understanding why millions support Hillary Clinton."


So while I am trying to take the high road, ( step aside, lady) and understand Obama will probably get the Democratic nomination, I do feel defeated... and still do believe Hillary in the long run would be the better choice to move us toward world peace. ( you need support in congress and in the armed forces to get us out of the war, you cannot just do this because it was a campaign promise..)

I just wish the freemale gender would all start talking and acting in a softer tone. The freemale sex has been put to work, and doesn't know how to lighten up on Men. I see it everyday in my 5 sisters. Its a fact that Man came first; until women understand that, we as a human race are screwed.

Move to the Middle East, then, Leo, where the men who can't handle the idea of strong women have managed to subjugate them by threat of death. Biology tells us that the female came first and that the male is an easy way to provide genetic variability, but hardly necessary. Get a grip, man!
