Last night's episode of "Smallville", the Superboy/pre-Superman series may have taken a swipe at Bush! In a "what if Kal-el (Superboy) didn't exist" scenario, Lex Luthor becomes president and trumps up charges that another country has nuclear weapons that they plan launch at America. Lex launches a "preemptive" first nuclear strike at the country with no nukes and triggers an apocalypse! Sounds familiar, don't it? Approval ratings are pretty bad when you get Superman on your ass!

Truth, Justice, and the American Way! (the real American way!) I love "Smallville." I loved "Lois and Clark" (when Terri Hatcher actually played an interesting character) ... all the movies ... the original TV show. They didn't know what they were doing when they raised us on that. We believed (and believe) it, to their dismay.

You betchya Shel. That and "The Lone Ranger", "Hoppy", Dale & Roy and Davey & Georgie (Crockett & Russell [who was a real person, by the way!]) and a bunch of others. "Be sure you're right, then go ahead!" Guess Dubya wasn't payin' attention!

Richie Havens does a narrative on one of his recordings where he talks about Superman fighting for " truth, justice AND the American way" , and notes that he thought "truth and justice WERE the American way". He mighta been on to something....huh?
