So, the prez says there have been mistakes made, and Iraq has become a breeding ground for terrorists, and it ain't good over there. Hmmmmmm????? Ain't that what the smart people said BEFORE we went in? Ain't that what the dumb people that got us in there were supposed to consider? Didn't Bush's daddy have the good sense NOT to march on to
Baghdad the first time?
Didn't Bush basically mail invitations to various terror groups by poor pre-war planning and justifications?
So basically, Bushie says we got fix this mess that he got us in. Sadly, I have to agree with him on some level there. I'd feel better if we had more smart guys on the job though, and more help from others in the region.

speaking from the other half, i sadly have to observe that at best, shrub is only trying to somewhat stabilize things to the extent that he can leave office and claim he didn't lose... and leave the entire mess to someone else for cleanup (and ultimate blame)
That's all he can see at this point, is perception of his legacy, and wonderment at why they would wanna put any books in his library...

I have to agree with the backhalf. He made this mess, but he won't be around to clean it up.

Yesterday's word from President Bush:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush on Saturday challenged lawmakers skeptical of his new Iraq plan to propose their own strategy for stopping the violence in Baghdad. ''To oppose everything while proposing nothing is irresponsible,'' Bush said.

Bush is using a Rush Limbaugh technique of ignorning facts. End-the-war strategies have been proposed ranging from measured troop withdrawals to declaring ourselves the winners and pulling out en masse. Perhaps even some Bush-supporters can remember the president's harsh criticism of some of these strategies he pretends he's not heard - referring to them as "Cut and run."

What's irresponsible is keeping Americans at risk and putting more in harm's way while making up statements like the one above to discredit people with real plans.

Lots of BS (Bushspeak) tonight as King George gives his annual State of the Union (don't ask!) spech tonight. Expect to hear how "we" passed the minimum wage increase, government ethics, and other domestic measures, but don't expect to hear a lot about that dirty little war going on in some country beginning with the letter "I."

Stay tuned for the Democratic response which will be given by Jim Webb of VA. He's supposedly not going to pull any punches and, since he's about the only DC legislator who's actually got a loved one (his son) in Iraq, I believe he's got the credentials.
