and just my 3 cents..i also 'joined' (started? LOL) this book club so that i would be 'forced' to read stuff i wouldnt otherwise read. i wanted to broaden my horizons (college phrase if ever i heard one!) and also have a place to talk about what i've read instead of reading in a vaccuum. i'm glad that we are picking up some new folks and that we have a bunch of books to choose from.

suggestion: a brief review of each book suggested so we can have a better idea when trying to choose.

i guess we're up to about 7 cents in the till now!

Sunday sounds good, thanx Ceashel for informing me about the first HArry Potter book, I've read it and seen the film. Sunday could of course work later too.. (as Sherry suggested)Do you discuss about all kinds of book in the BBC meeting (detective stories,fiction, what Ceashel said?? -there are very good crime books written by Donna Leon, does anybody know her?? fiction-Lord of the rings could be interesting ..
Can't think of other good books at the moment.. But there's plenty of time left to choose books for the next BBC meeting (maybe we can discuss it during the next BBC meeting (maybe on Sunday??)

The last meeting was my first one, so that's as much as I know about the BBC -- as such.

I plan on reading all the books that have been suggested, and would like to talk about them when I do. Presumably most of the books won't take all that long to read, and it seems like the people who've metnioned books have done so because they'd like to talk about them. I haven't been reading much since getting my degree/going through all the hospital stuff.
I can certainly recommend all kinds of good books, from all kinds of genres and from several different countries. For most of my life I've been a positively voracious reader.

One of my New Year's resolutions last year (right before "do NOT make any more resolutions you won't keep") was to read at least one "real" book a month. I love my escapism (particularly mystery/detective/action adventure stuff), but also want to expand my horizons. I'm making a list of suggestions too. I can't meet on Sundays until (and if ever) I get on-line at home. However, I will lol at Muffy's and RBs distinctly different takes on the results of the meeting. Can we sorta choose 2 or 3 possibilities for the next meeting? (I'd like to be up on the reading just in case.) <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif" width=15 height=15>

rb, I don't even know what books you are talking about. Book of the Month or "Harpo's" book list or whatever list is just a signal to me to proceed with caution, if at all. This is OUR BBC.

I'm just waiting for a time frame, myself. Sunday is fine with me, but so is any other day or night.

As for what book(s) to choose next, and how ... How has it been done in the past? I tend to read several at a time when I do read, but would like to be on the same page as everyone else at the meetings (as it were). My own preferences run toward what's deemed to be "Literature," but again, I'm happy with anything, if it's good.

There are times when the chronic pain syndrome and the 'subsequent health issues' resulting from being clinically dead (twice so far) among other such minor medical details, do take over. If I don't show, and don't contact anyone to say I won't be there, it isn't because I'm not bothering to. There are times when I simply cannot move. I can't get or stay focused long enough to make a phone call, let alone read a book. I can't sit for more than a few minutes at a time -- if I can get out of the prone position in the first place. When I go down, I'm down. Everything in my life stops. There's not a damn thing I can do about it, either. If you've never experienced the level of pain that paralyzses you completely, there's no way I can explain what happens in terms that you'll understand, either. (Just thought I'd throw that last sentence in. On general principle, of course.)

Please keep in mind the 6 hour time difference for fan when setting a time you can make it, Everybody -- especially if you're not really planning to show anyway ... (RB, I'm begining to see what you mean.)
