If revolution means going round and round, I think we are already there. :?

I've been concerned about a 2008 "conservative" coup for awhile now; been called crazy before so I'm used to it, but I will be so extremely relieved if we actually have an election and get a new president. I believe that you're right, Wyld, if not, it means hitting the streets if we value our heritage and love our country ... sigh ... round and round, indeed. I've never in my life hoped I was wrong as much as I do now. But in the meantime, you just do what you do and talk to folks and write to the politicians and try to make a difference and SING LOUDER and Blunder on.

I thought coins were round to go round. Revolution today would take marshel law, then the street lights in NY city would all be turned to be turned to red.
Bush and three of the top republicans would all start another war, if they have their way though.
They must someday give peace and ending poverty a chance.

Yeah Shel it's kinda scary but it does cross my mind at times too. We may have to engage a Blunderocket to take us to a whole new planet, heck, even a whole new universe.

But enough of that, taking to the streets sounds like a better option.

you have alot of company in those worries, Ceashel... it's all over the internet in blogs, progressive and not... and as Annie says it's a worrisome time now as the end of term approaches...especially when America is watching the dog and pony show political race... who's watching DC??... right now Bush is in the mid-East trying to make a deal with the Saudi's to lower oil prices, supposedly.... gets hardly any media coverage...

so i'm doing the impeachment thing, too... Cheney first, Bush second....asking for an investigation which has been iffy in the Kucinich bill seems to move more reps who think this is a big thing to do.... (apparently not for lying about adult relationships, but starting wars, well..hmm)...and suppose it is and want "facts"... that seems to impress my Rep into pushing harder with Kucinich...

..And what does Bush go and offer the Saudi's in return for doing something about oil prices? More sophisticated weapons and other implements of distruction! :? What a guy.. 11 more months that is all I keep thinking. If we can just get through eleven more months with this guy. I just hope that whoever wins this election does much better for this country. One can only hope.

What would a guy who blew up frogs as a kid offer his family's best friends? Maybe his country?

I just need a sanity check here.

A Surge in current lingo is increasing the number of armed people in a defined area (say Iraq for instance) and having them go into troubled areas and round everybody up and put them in "detention centers" (previously known as concentration camps) and hold them with limited or essentially no civil rights to make "troubles" go away so the press will say the "Surge" is working. Meanwhile, these "detention centers and neighborhoods become the prime recruitment zone central for kooky religious zealot American hating psychotic human beings.

Did I get that right?

Meanwhile, the dollar is in the tank because we have over spent all our money keeping people in arms in a defined area (say Iraq for instance) creating concentration camps as part of these surges. As a result of spending all this money on this military stuff and getting in debt there, we have forfeited any chance of shoring up our decaying infrastructure (roads, energy generation systems etc etc) or our bizarre splintered health care and educational systems.

Is it me?

THen it comes to the crux of the "electoral" debate, do we want a Washington insider or do we want to send Mr. Smith to Washington? Who can be effective in these times of change very little and hope it all works out?

(this post is on behalf of no presidential candidate, either past or future)

Tom Paine said, "We have the Power to start the World over again."
In this age of communication, it is even more so.

just on the one thing...i have been hearing about "fixing the health care system" (some of it during the clinton years) since it began spiraling wildly out of control and it has only gotten worse and worse...my thing is that i don't know what of what i hear to believe! i hear this and i hear that and it all (by now) sounds like that charlie brown trumpet thing with the toilet plunger...so you all will forgive me while i listen (for the most part quietly on the subject) for anything that makes sense or sounds true

another thought, it's like the bar has been set pretty high now for being horrible

i hope that makes sense

It was an American Communist who ran for President in the 40's 50's or both who wrote, "The oil belongs to the people not the corporations."
I say the same thing today about the oil, telephone and the Tv.
I can't tell you here about my religious ideals, or they will cut me off here.
I can deal with that with the bosses here on arolnet.
But as adg says, "It is not only what is true that matters, but what is not true."
I'm just trying to find a way to tell the religious right, Rail Road, immoral minority or media-right storm-as I like calling them, to mind there own bs as Revelation 22:10-11 told John in the last advice given to John. Which is the Beatles song Let it Be.
So how do we reveal to the media what is not true? When we figure that out, we will be half way there.

Agnes, My take is this! Currently, all agree it (the medical care) is screwed up. THe average person lucky enough to have coverage pays increasing for generally adequate care with confusing regulations. If a major expense is encountered, there is a thick layer of beuracacy designed to argue with the hospitals aout cost and another one to argue with the consumer about cost. It is getting to the point where primary care people are even charging yearly paperwork fee's for certain HMO's. THen there are those (a large portion of the population) who either can't afford medical coverage or are in a time of life where it would be such a huge burden as to induce psychosis (usually the young or old).

So, in terms of the election.. There is nothing but rhetoric and undefined optimistic "I will fix it". The most common rhetoric from the Republicans is I will fix it with out Clintonism (a code word suggesting socialism, watch out Leo those capitalist are after you again!)

Meanwhile, nobodies is sure actually where the money goes and where exactly it ends up?????

So, I guess that is the long winded way of saying

I AGREE WITH YOU!

One thing in life is guaranteed. There is always someone ready to make a profit on us on the day we are born, for as long as we exist on this earth and on the day they lay us in our graves. I see the health insurance industry as the evil empire. It's like selling your sole to the devil. We all need insurance but we are at their mercy. They have the ability to say live or die. I wouldn't want to be a doctor these days. My daughter needed to have some test done not to long ago, and she was in some serious pain that was hard to diagnose. Our doctor had to argue with the insurance company to allow the testing to be performed and then he had to argue with them again to perform the surgury. Then after the surgury our doctor claimed it was just in time another day and she would have been gone. I admit there are some doctors that are out there performing unnecassary test and surgeries but in this case because of their delays they could have cost my daughter her life. Health Insurance is just another necessary evil!
-Eric
