There is a lot of talk right now on Capitol Hill about the need to balance the federal budget. Sadly, both Democrats and Republicans alike are largely debating about how best to balance the budget upon the backs of the poor and working people (who are many times the very same people) and the elderly. First and foremost on the chopping block appears to be Social Security and Medicare -- the lifeline for millions of seniors in this country and the only hope for any sort of retirement for the vast majority of people in this country.

Of course, for those of us concerned about basic notions of fairness and justice, and for those of us who are literally dying at the hands of this system, this state of affairs is completely unacceptable, and must be resisted. With the Obama administration beginning its third year, it is by now painfully obvious that the predictions of even the most sober Obama supporters were overly optimistic. Rather than an ally, the administration has shown itself to be an implacable enemy of reform.

Germany is doing a great job of coming out of this recession, which I wish we could focus on what works there, instead of all the name calling I see in this Broken Promised Land.

Blogging against conservative ideology may make us feel better temporarily but it is insufficient to actually make a dent in the status quo that is slowly strangling what made us the greatest nation 70 years ago. It was technology that set us apart - our ability to A) transform manufacturing plants to build weapons, B) Manhattan project for the atomiic bomb, and C) unify on our reaction to the Russian Sputnik.

It must be technology that sets our path upward again. We will never get off fossil fuel as long as there is no cheaper alternative. If/when, somone invents a way of producing cheap/portable/safe electrical energy, the tide will turn away and then we must keep the conservative faction from taking it over.

The Jet my Girl Friend was taking back to Belgium, after 3 weeks of laughs, along with an awkward moment or 2, was held up on account of Pictures in my 3 News Letters she had with her. A lady saw the photos and her Buka, and turned her in as a possible Renegade Muslim (No more of that "T" word for me.) and the Pilot had to clear her... and it took off 20 minutes late.
