Yes, I love the magic of little boys ... little girls have it too! ... 1965 ... I had a crush on Ed Kranepool... LOL

Seriously, on topic... I am blown away by the insight you, my friends, have been posting... Thank you!!! (and keep it going... I need more to think on!!!)

I do have to say that Cindy Sheehan is doing what we need! She is asking the questions! She is getting the attention, not for her own self, but for her son's sake and for all of us!

MoveOn had put out a call for vigils in support of Cindy Sheehan... to take place this Wednesday (8/17) at 7:30 local time. I'll be at the vigil in Washington Park in Albany. If you're interested, go to MoveOn.org to find a vigil near you.

could you imagine if the mother of a fallen soldier from every faction in the world that now fills compelled to kill others for whatever reason confronted their own particular warlord with the look you see in Cindy's eyes all at the same time with continuous press coverage of each instance on every network medium throughout the world and in every dialect beamed into every home, village, community and the coverage persists until every war lord feels compelled to speak with the mother and hear the expression of frustration and anger that comes with all the "justifications" for war

The vigil in Albany was great. We had about 250-300 people there, and a counteraction across the street, with four or five people. We heard several activists, including a woman from Iraq who explained how things are there under the occupation. We walked about a half mile, with candles and in silence, to the war memorial (near the State Museum) to remember those who have died. Then we went on to the Plaza, and surrounded the reflecting pool there.

I guess my poster was pretty good, because a LOT of people took pictures of it... including the photographer for the Times Union... and it attracted the attention of reporters from the local Fox and CBS affiliates. I was interviewed briefly by both of those tv stations. So I guess I'll give in and watch tv for a while tonight, and see if I'm on! LOL

Wyld rocks! You go, girl!

We were pleasantly surprised that there were also about 300 people at our vigil in conservative Carrollton, Texas. (Dick Army country.) There were several other vigils around the Dallas area, too. Our group just stood along the sidewalk between a park and a busy street--got an amazing number of cars honking and giving the peace sign. (Although a few didn't quite know how to do that and only used one finger, it really was only a few.) Only a small handfull of counterprotesters, including one baby Marine, just out of boot and headed for Iraq, who came in belligerent and left having made some friends. <img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif" width=15 height=15>

It was nice to look up at the almost-full moon and know that it was shining down on vigils all over the country.

Just saw local news coverage of the vigils here. It was abysmal.

Seventy-two people signed the attendance sheet going around at the Barkhamsted vigil. Might not seem like a lot of people, but for a town of 3500 people in the middle of almost nowhere, I think it was pretty good.

There were Bu$h supporters there, as well, but only about 14 or 15, holding up their saved 2004 campaign signs. I don't think that they were too pleased to see my 3'x5' peace symbol flag. (I highly recommend you get one if you plan on attending more of these. They're very high visibility, a lot more so than posterboard and marker signs, and get the point across without words. Not to sound like a commercial, but they're only $15 + s&h from www.northernsun.com ) Another good thing is that this may have generated more people attending the Winsted vigils. Good! We need more people to be seen everywhere! Good to hear more people are takin' it to the streets!
