Taking the title of this thread as it is i feel just a wee bit inspired to write a wee bit about a Spiritually Physic Sensation I happened to experience just last Sunday past. Now coming from a background of being by family tradition an Irish catholic up until I was a teenager when having delved into religion and stuff (including my own tradition) i decided to become a catholic atheist rather than play the game of religion just to please whoever. Then while in the Irish Defence Forces I had what I later discovered was an 'Out of the Body Experience'. (Was in my bed in the barracks one night, eyes closed, very relaxed, sleepy but awake. Next thing I knew was I was looking down at my body from above, approx three feet or more. Scared the manure out off me and I began, yep, I began reciting those well rehearsed childish prayers that I knew from the time I was an Altar boy, a Choir boy and a Confraternity boy, a catholic boy! Well, the next thing I knew I was back in my body and boy was i relieved! My comrades sleeping in beds on either side of me were still sleeping so rather than wake them up and them reporting me as going nuts I kept that little secret to myself.

A couple of years went by and I did all the usual things. Then a comrade gave me a book by Hal Lindsey (I think it was called 'The Late Great Planet Earth' and some time later I became a born-again Christian (The Irish Defence Forces had to come up with a new pigeon-hole for the likes of me and others so we were officially labelled 'Irish Christian Unaffiliated'. I remained so for approx fifteen years and my wife and kids were very much involved in the Fellowship we attended. But as I studied the Bible I discovered more questions rather than answers and began looking (god forbid) elsewhere after discovering in the Bible that Paul was recorded as having an 'Out of the body' experience and went to the 'Third Heaven'. To cut a long story short, we finished with the christians, moved house and that was that. Did some more reading as I mentioned in earlier threads and that brings me to where I am today. I haven't got the belief to be a believer in 'god/s' but I also haven't got the belief to be an Athiest. So I suppose I'll just pigeon=hole myself as an agnostic of sorts for the time being!
(I'm 'shooting from the hip' with this post so it probably doesn't hold much holey water)

Anyway, last sunday I was working and as part of my job I drive a mini-bus. While on a trip into town I passed by the house where one of my sons and his family are living and a strange feeling came over me as i just passed by their house. Tonight I began thinking about that 'feeling' and having discussed the matter with my wife I have come to the conclusion that what I experienced was not some kind of nostalgic feeling as i know what they are having experienced them many times. This was something different in nature so I have decided to name it as a Spiritually Physic Experience' and just as real as that 'Out of the Body' experience I had years ago. (I did have perhaps 'spiritual' experiences in the past as well as physic stuff) Oh, an approx fifteen minutes later I bumped into my Son's family in town which was nice.

I remain an agnostic but am just wondering what other folks think besides the usual. Like anyone else in the Dump have similar experiences and would share them?
(Maybe I'm reading too much into the experience. On the other hand maybe I'm writing too much about nothing, who knows?) And the Good News is, you don't have to be 'religious' to be just crazy! It would appear that even if its just a figment of human imagination, Mother Nature still has some tricks up her trunk to surprise with a little wink of joy. Who cares if its all in the mind - better than some other stuff i suppose!

Sleep well into eternity folks whatever your faith and don't worry about what's under the bed

Ps. I'll probably wonder tomorrow morning why I wrote the a/m but maybe not. I like fruitcakes, especially home baked. Most of us shrink as we grow older probably because we eat less. Eat more fruitcakes?

Yes, it is mind noise. Everybody has that stuff! Brains to minds to cognition is some weird complex shit made up of a bunch of cross firing energy dissipative reactions! You get a lot of thought, visual and emotional leakage. As everyone knows, LSD and similar drugs increase the probability of leakage and accentuate the results (oh wow, reality has a colorful echo man).

I don't know what that has to do with talking religious fruitcake blues?

Unless you are trying to associate your random mind shit with some (finger in the air as if pontificating) SUPERIOR BEING..BEING..BEIng...BEiNg..BeIng...bEiNg...(echoing forever into the great cosmic abyss!!!...????... . .. ... .. . ..)

Nah, i don't do finger in the air (unless I'mm reaching for shy hooks). Did smile at the reply and i actually thought that that was a wee bit of on the edge of 'religious fruitcake blues' but not being a 'superior' being of any description i sit in awe butt i do like the undermentioned as it kinda flows along the page........

"Holiness, sacredness, enlightenment, bliss, love, compassion, surrender and a sense of humor; all these come moment by moment, inch by inch and mile after mile." - ADG. (sounds heavenly don't you think?)

Pray tell me H. What is the official take on 'talking religious fruitcake blues'? It seems to get some atheists and religious folks hot, bothered and wired up, me thinks therefore i am.

Imagination is a powerful god, i suppose but maybe a powerful 'god' got Imagination - who knows this side of eternity?

"You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us and the world will live as One." JL i suppose

Do ya think, having bit the bullet, he's 'forgiven' and is in 'Heaven' on his knees or having a Hell of an eternity getting roasted nuts, smoking, drinking, having sex and floating higher on Sgt Peppers?
How's this for a wee dream  :P (Happy swimming)

Heartless, me! Perhaps this wee song will melt away your sadness and lift your spirit Heraclitis. Lets hope John and all loved and not so loved, have, do and will continue to travel to a better place. (John, like your good self was a self confessed 'atheist' so I suppose its a win, win position if only....?)

Happy x-mas - Happy Christmas - Seasons Greetings - Love, Love, Love.

Peace and goodwill to all aboard the Mother Ship and lets throw WAR overboard for once and for all! (Now, wouldn't that be some 'Christmas' to look forward to and then to celebrate together!

Listen closely:

There is no better place! Your just f'n dead!

So, if you cover yourself in explosive and go into a school and start killing little kids in the name of god until somebody shows up to kill you,

you don't go to heaven or someplace better!

you and the kids (and teachers) are just f'n dead!
and it is just sad

Now do you get the Talking Religious Fruitcake Blues?

Not having been gifted with the omniscience of either, a Religious or an Atheist Believer, talking religious fruitcake blues, I suppose i remain as thick as two f'n planks or between a rock and a hard place.
i wait an ponder without holding my breath.

(reference your mention of the word 'sad'. The atrocities commited in any cause/god are much more than 'sad'. If you are talking about 'sad' in the contex of 'just f'n dead' sadness and grief are a part of nature, to be experienced by all individuals at some time. Your belief doesn't come into the equation H other than with your own (sad) individual experience. It remains irrelevant to the question being feeling rather than fact.

We all blow it in the end. Talking Religious Fruitcake Blues remains open to the interpretation of the free thinker and believer alike. That's what I get which such talk from the great ominisiencents in this life.

Happy Christmas!

(PS. Who knows, perhaps I have the wee gift of 'tongues'?)

I think I have been very consistent and clear on this one:

I could give a damn if you want to worship monkey piss and the pubic hair of siberian yaks!

If you are religious..just shut up about it.. Stop acting like you are special. Stop pushing your "religious" morals on everybody! Stop killing people! Stop ACTING IN THE NAME OF GOD!

This is one planet and we got to all live on it. Separatingit in the name of a bunch of different bogus religious identities is not evolutionarily sound. It is not the only thing that has to change. But, It is a critical contributor to mass stupidity today!

The world is not a cartoon with wee little leprechuans and unicorns. It is a dying opportunity for the human race and continued religious stupidity will bring on the apocalypse religious people want so badly!

IT IS NOT A JOKE ANYMORE!
