We saw him on Meet the Press, and he did have some interesting things to say, but I was distressed to learn that he only recently switched to the side of choice. I'm not a one-issue voter, but that one is a biggie for me, and a good indicator of how a candidate regards half the human race.

I don't know much about him. I like his positions on labor, going by his website. What's the deal with choice? He was against it? Totally?

Pat, Tim Russert asked him why he had suddenly switched to being pro-choice after a lifetime of being anti-abortion, just at the same time he announced his candidacy. He said it wasn't sudden--it was the result of thinking he'd been doing over the past year or so.<img src="http://www.arlo.net/ubb/smilies/hmph.gif" width=15 height=15>

Well, I kind of doubt he has much chance this time around anyway, but I like the positions he says he has. When there's some time I'd like to research exactly what his past position on abortion was and how it manifested itself. I guess even relatively good guys might dissemble a bit, because going by his site, it's kind of hard to tell.

There is more information about Dennis' stand on reproductive rights if you click on "More issues" on his web site. His efforts seem to be aimed at reducing the NEED for abortions, while keeping them legal and retaining a woman's right to make a difficult choice.

I don't really see him making it very far into the campaign, but he may force debate on other serious issues, which would be a welcome outcome of his candidacy.

The way to stop unwanted pregnancies is for every teen male to have a vasectomy. I hear they're about 80% reversable. They also could bank sperm for when they get older and more sane.

The best way to get rid of unwanted babies, is to talk with your young children. Any young gal (12---13) that isn't going to planned parent-hood. Should!!! Parents love to talk the talk. It's getting them to walk the walk, that usually causes problems...

Putting repsonsibility on the male half is good. I used to remind my son that if a girl he was having sex with got pregnant it was entirely up to her as to what to do about it and if she decided to keep the baby and it was his, he was a daddy for life with all the financial and other responsibilities that entailed and there was no weaseling out of it. I have no idea if that had any effect or not, but he has reached the age of 24 without any paternity issues arising.

pat, that's good! Mine are 19 & 24, and I'm not a grandmother, that I know of yet. I've bought many condoms and given them to em, whether they wanted em or not. That's about all I can do beside talk. And parents often use too many words.

As a former teen age boy and even up until today, I might say that it has always been the fault of the girls, I can assure you that without the girls being there, I would never have even thought of sex.

Men have been getting a bad rap for too long now, Women, not men want to have babies, and it is for that reason they lead us poor guys into all manner of shameful acts. If only they could have babies without us, then maybe they would allow us to maintain our virginity a little longer.
