Ceashel, that's comforting about Martin Frost. I don't know anything about him, and the little that was written about him in the morning paper wasn't too informative. As fas as John Kerry is concerned, lcj, he's OK. I'd call him a moderate liberal, but I certainly could be off base. I worry that if he was going to excite the electorate he would have done so by now, though. Charisma counts. When it comes to presidential elections it's the most important thing. President, pop star..same thing. It's actually important in governing, too, because things don't always go right. You need to be able to get the people behind you. JFK, could do it, Reagan could do it, Bill Clinton could do it and GW can do it. That says more about us than about them, but it's something to keep in mind. Thoughtful types who come across as intellectual can't do it. What they do is sink like stones.

Ceashel is right on about the dichotomy thing..also dilemma and parodox and other unpleasant things like that. The number one thing the Democrats need to do is unify the diverse left of center groups back into a single voting block. To do that, they have to present a clear alternative to the Republicans, but at the same time they need to convince people that they need to vote together and work on their differences other ways than at the polls. If they can't do that, then we'll just have Republicans until they screw up so badly that we have one of those "throw the bums out years" and then we get to start the merry-go-round all over again.

Yeah, RB, but it really does matter. Even if 100% of them were corrupt and lying scum, which may or may not be the case, it would still matter.

Well, I just saw John Kerry on the Sunday morning talk show. Again, I don't know much about the guy, but I was more impressed with what I saw in him in 5 minutes that I would be listening to Al Gore drone on for a year. He seemed to speak sincerely from the heart, something I don't think Gore has ever been able to do. Maybe I'm just in an "anybody but Gore" frame of mind, but I'd like to think the Dems could put up better contender. Maybe Kerry's not the guy, but there's gotta be somebody who can challenge this JACKASS who's been judicially appointed to the White House.

Oh, I don't think Gore should be the guy. I know he's the big front runner now, but things can change a lot in a year and a half. Most people hadn't heard of Jimmy Carter, or Bill Clinton, for that matter, at this stage in the game leading up to their candidacies. I'm interested in John Edwards. Way too early to say, but he seems like someone who might be able to convey a message to people who don't already agree with him. Sheer speculation on my part at this time. I've only seen him speak a couple of times but I'll be looking for opportunities to see him. I think I'm changing my registration from Independent to Democrat in time for the primaries. I usually don't even want to vote in the primaries, because I know the ones I like the best aren't particularly electable, but I'm looking at it differently now and would like to vote to choose the candidate this time around.

I say we put a chastity belt on Bill Clinton and let him run again.

I hope all of you who voted Republican feel the same way when we go to war and you, your sons, daughters, grandsons and/or granddaughters are drafted. Mr. Bush (and notice I said Mr. not President) seems to think he owns the country and can do anything he wants to do without approval from anyone. I, too, think a lot of Jimmy Carter, but I also think he's way too nice a human being to an effective president. In that job sometimes you just have to be a bastard and I don't think he can sink that low.

Wyld, did you see the PBS biography on Carter? I've always admired him, but after seeing it, I admire him so much more. He proved you CAN be president and be moral enough to join (and excel in) the Navy and still be an outstanding human being! What pisses me off most about Carter is that throughout the eighties and nineties, people ridiculed him. So the worst/best thing about him (to me) is that his enemies have always been clueless. If you missed the program, try to catch it on reruns. It's worth 2 hours of your time. Carter in 2004, INDEED. Taking (really) orders for bumper stickers. If I get enough orders, I'll get 'em made and send 'em out.
