It is also interesting that a coalition has evolved between fundamentalist Christians with an anti-Semitic past and fundamentalist Jews who are amazing survivors of Christian pogroms and hatred all in order to create the illusion of prophecy fulfilled.

Perhaps you could expound on this, and the relevance to the long running conflict? It disturbs me that I started studying this conflict in 5 th grade.

well, it is pretty simple really...if the revelations and prophecies of the Jews and Christians are not fulfilled...then their god does not exist...ergo...they invest in the fulfillment of their prophecies!

Have you not observed how giddy they get when a red calf is born in Israel? Hell, they start stocking up their RV's to go camp out at Megiddo to get a front row seat to witness the end of days!
(and people ask me how I could be a fundamentalist Atheist? JESUS?)

and (for the Goofus Meister)

microbes don't kill, they just take advantage of the physical / chemical conditions they find them selves in to multiply and sustain their existence the best they can..it is analagous to humans on Earth...it is not our intention to kill the Earth but it is certainly a possible outcome of our existence!

Deuteronomy 20, it all comes down to god giving Israel a license to kill:

16But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

17But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, the Jebusites and the Palistinianites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

18That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.

Mantra......"a hymn or portion of text.......chanted or intoned as an incantation or prayer"

"Death In Gaza"......not the most positive mantra to ever come down the pike......why not "Starvation In Somalia", or "Suffering In Insane Asylums", or "Hopelessness In Haiti"???

Anthropological linguistics teaches us that language is a major factor in the constructs of a culture's reality. Quantum physics agrees that the nature of our thoughts and intentions has enormous power to influence the reality of our world around us. Positive "mantras" yield positive vibes and negative "mantras" yield negative vibes......and vibes can wield tremendous power......whether or not a placebo effect is involved matters not to an end-result.

As a "mantra", "Life In Gaza" could effect real hope for the situation, while "Death In Gaza" practically precludes it. If I say that I can influence the orbit of the moon around the earth with my mind, it doesn't make it so, but it leaves the door of infinite possibilities open. Who knows? But if I say absolutely that I cannot, I have shut that door completely......now there are no possibilities. The mantra of "possible" holds way more power than the mantra of "impossible" by definition. (Refer to Don Quixote)

A wise man once said, "Some people look at the world and say 'why?'......I look at the world and say 'why not?'."

I don't believe in incantation or prayer. The use of Death in Gaza as a mantra is just a continuing reminder of the reality of the situation. If it affects change it is because it confronts instead of avoids conflict. I use it as a mantra as a reminder of reality as I believe in a pragmatic approach and I actually have very little confidence that any change in this situation is pending!

Incantation, prayer, meditation with intent---it doesn't matter what it's called---we alter the so-called "reality of the situation" all the time. We can smile when we walk into a room and brighten it up, we can console someone who is hurting and make them feel better. Conversely, there are lots of ways we could walk into that same room and screw everybody's day up. We do have those powers, but with them come responsibilities. This stuff begins at home, and radiates outwardly. What does this have to do with all the death in Gaza? I abhor and am repulsed by war, as are many of my fellow Countrymen and women, yet we live in a nation which has been at war in one form or another from its inception until this present moment.

I disagree! Prayers, Incantations and Meditations are not going to change the reality of those people living in Gaza any more than they affected the outcome of those living in Auschwitz in 1944,

I never said that positive vibes would change anything in Gaza. I said that they would change us.

I think that we can all agree that the situation is pretty f***ed up and has been for time immoraleal (my own bastardization of a word) and will continue to be until everybody gets their feces together (which don't look too promising at the present). P. S. (Seeger, not Beatty) said it pretty well in "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

"When will they ever learn....?"

The ones who need to be changed are praying for a holy victory, not peace!

And they'll no doubt get it, mostly due to the U.S.'s unflagging and unconditional support for Israel. What I was alluding to was our government's need for radical policy change......Peace begins at home. The arrogance......that we can preach peace to any other nation while we are continuously engaged in war is unbelievable and hypocritical. I was suggesting that we need to clean up our own act before we pass judgement on others. The only respect we attain is born out of fear......using our power wisely instead of abusing it would set a positive example and go along way toward giving us real credibility in the eyes of the rest of the planet. Peace, like war, can be contageous......but it needs to start somewhere. Why not here?

Although I have to agree with what you say here, I was actually asking if you could say you've never killed a microbe...

"You know that peace can only be won when we've blown 'em all to kingdom come"...Country Joe said that (sarcastically).

"We shall yet make these United States a moral nation. Sinclair Lewis' Elmer Gantry said that(hypocrtically).

"In your re-election, God has graciously granted America--though she doesn't deserve it - a reprieve from the agenda of paganism. You have been given a mandate ... Don't Equivocate. Put your agenda on the front burner and let it boil. You owe the liberals nothing. They despise you because they despise your Christ...."

"Undoubtedly, you will have opportunity to appoint many conservative judges and exercise forceful leadership with the Congress in passing legislation that is defined by biblical norm regarding the family, sexuality, sanctity of life, religious freedom, freedom of speech, and limited government. You have four years - a brief time only - to leave an imprint for righteousness upon the nation that brings with it the blessings of Almighty God...."

"If you have weaklings around you who do not share your biblical values, shed yourself of them." Reverend Bob Jones III said that (seriously? after the 2nd coming of w).

"What, What?" I said that(don't remember why).
