Never been Jewish, but I must admit the mitzvahs I've been to were the best parties I've been to in quite a while. Though the ceremonies do go on for a long time...

One of many things I've never been able to figure out ..... If Jesus was Jewish and Christians follow Jesus, then why aren't Christians Jewish? What's that all about oh, Great Guru Smartass?

A few who inform themselves do follow the Jewish laws. I know a guy who's Christian and observes, well, not all, but probably more of the laws than a typical member of a Reform synagogue would do.

Yeah, they have Messianic Jews, Jews who are Christians & love Jesus. Like the Jews for Jesus. A Jewish lady preached at our church some yrs ago & she was interesting. Once at a pentecostal tent revival meeting, I saw a Jewish Rabbi cast devils out of some women. The chicks were screaming bloody murder & falling outta their seats & rolling around in the floor. I assumed it was some weird Pentecostal thing. When I mentioned about it around Mikes cousin who the penetecostal church she goes to put on the tent revival meetings said naw it was devils being cast out of the women. Very weird tho.

One yr at those pentecostal tent revivals Lamont Sanford of Sanford & Son preached there (he's a preacher now). I would've liked to have gone but I had an Arlo show to go to that nite. Priorities ya know. We later found out Lamont Sanford re-baptized Mikes cousin & her hubby & in a swimming pool of a motel that was next door. They had already been baptized before but evidently decided since Lamont was baptizing folks, they might as well do it again with him lol. I would've loved to have seen that...

There was a jew in my school. He would go stand in the hall when we did Christian stuff in Grade School. Real nice guy named Ozzie.

We allso had one of those plan Christian girls. Wore the funny plain clothes with a bonnet all the time. She was beautiful. Blond hair, green eyes and good bone structure with a beautiful infectious laugh. She was Christian but she did not do the typucal Christian stuff. Her name was Rebekah and nobody ever called her Becky.

Then we had Cheyenne, Choctaw, Seminole and Apache. THey would just sit there and watch and occasionally laugh when they were around Christian stuff. They had names like Dean and Arnold. I didn't know those were Native American names? One was named OC. He was the Seminole of course! He would get that crazy wild indian look after a couple of drinks.

My dancing Shiva and Fat Buddha are made of metal but my Jesus is Plastic with little wheels on the bottom to give it that gliding effect!

Being raised Christian, I always thought they/we were in a sense. If there were no Jews, there would be no Christians. Christianity was born out of Jewish tradition and some things are still shared to this day. I'm not sure about Smartassism.

Must be one of those interdenominational, one world religion thingies.

If the opportunity ever comes my way, I'll give it a try. You won't find me near the fish though.. Later, I'll be the one asking where the cake is.

I have seen some great recipes, I just haven't tried any out. I think the custom of dipping the apple in the honey on Rosh Hashana is pretty neat.

one should not shy away from jewish food. One should embrace it, tongue it, sniff it, and then consume mass quantities of it... Of course, you'll have to be rolled out the door, but you'll have such a happy face, oy!

Look around your community around Passover. Many synagogues will hold 'model' seders (sometimes real ones too!) And traditionally, these are by their very nature non-denominational. It's always been a good opportunity for the jewish community to invite others to the table, and to share the story of how we came from slavery, etc. etc. More importantly, it's your opportunity to sample traditional, and sometimes indiginous, jewish fare. Same thing with Friday night Shabbos (sabbath) dinner. In some communities, and in some households, it is a great mitzvah to invite strangers in for the Shabbos meal. It really is all about the food, nu?

Now as to the matter of Jews for Jesus, or a Rabbi who expels devils at a pentacostal gathering... sorry, but from my perspective, these are no longer jews. Once you start accepting some other deity (i.e. jesus), you are no longer practicing judyism, and it's deceptive to call that jewish worship. It's one thing to be 'Reform' meaning you liberally pick and choose how you will follow the tenents of the religion, but another to try and recast the underpinnings and still call it judyism.

But then again, my religion is really about my heritage, my history, my perspective in this world, and of course my customs and ceremonies. I try hard not to let Max (god) and all that religious stuff muck it up...

Sigh, I can't even think about sugar... breathing deeply helps sometimes.

I dunno, Arnie. Even if I wasn't a vegetarian, gefilte fish still looks pretty gross!

I don't know if I could be Jewish, they can't eat pigs feet, ham, or fried catfish, can they? These are my favorite foods. I do like Jewish rye bread and bagals. Jewish rye goes great with ham but I wouldn't recomend catfish and bagals.
