The only ones who profit from the cheap illegal emigrant labor are the companies who hire them. The only one I've heard of for sure is Tyson-a rich company, but there are many, many more. How do they get away with it?
The emigrants can't afford to live here on below minimum wages, so they apply for and get HUD, food stamps and Medicaid, fill our schools and prisons, live 5 families to an apartment and save their money to send south for their relatives to join them.
I don't have hard feelings for these people who want better lives for themselves and their children. I resent that they are stealing it. Our country can't afford to take care of our own senior citizens, hungry children and sick and disabled people-and you're right, it's not the government's business to support the citizens. It is the government's business to secure the borders and deport people who are not here legally.

Since 9-11 it is easy to get afraid of the People from down south. Lou Dobbs spoke of it for years before it ever became an issue D.C. cared with. Though personally I respect Lou greatly as a News Man, for at least trying to tell us there has been a war on the middle class for some time now. In my mind that war is summed up by breaking the Unions while talking of smaller govt. For the Unions are the smaller govt we the people will always need.
If the World can allow over 300,000 illegals in Iraq counting blackwater we can help feed Mexicans and those South of us.

It blew my mind and still does from a night or so ago.

I think it was better without the bird feeder. In 1960 my mom supported 2 kids working as a waitress for 40 cents an hour. The only help she had was from family members. Mom went to night classes and learned to type and file and got a better job. It was rough but we made it. She had medical insurance because it was cheap.

People who cannot work should have help. That used to be done mainly by family or church and community charities. The streets were not filled with homeless people. Many of the homeless are mentally ill people who receive a disability payment, which is not enough to live on. These people cannot take care of themselves, even when they are financially able to do it.

These days the cost of living is so high that many families in which both parents work still barely get by. My state is a "right to work" state with very few unions and many low wages. My doctor's office charges $76 for a simple office visit. Specialists cost much more. The dentists in this town charge over $100 for one simple extraction. I don't know what the answer is, but all the government hand-outs haven't made things better in the long run.
P.S. I'm a democrat and plan to vote for Obama. I guess that makes me a left-handed music lover, conservative-liberal.

Amen brother. Mike is legally blind due to undiagnosed diabetes & his disability is never enough. We could sure use more. Fuel assitance helps some but never covers the whole bill. I consider myself to be sort of a liberal conservative because even tho I'm aligned with the conservatives on 99% of there are a coupla things I am liberal about like I think hippies are okay, am anti-nam & am for help for the poor...
